The DevOps and Security Manager will oversee the maintenance of middleware software in AWS, ensuring timely patching and optimal performance. This role manages production releases, administers tools such as BitBucket, Jenkins, Crontab, UC4, and Informatica, and supports the Associate Vice Chancellor in organization-wide risk assessments, security compliance, and disaster recovery initiatives. Collaborating closely with the Director of Cloud Infrastructure, the manager will ensure all assets are securely backed up and readily available for swift recovery in alignment with organizational goals.

Remote work from any of the following states – Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin.

The hiring range for this position is $110,000-152,000 annually. Offers are determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: geographical location, knowledge, skills, years & depth of experience, and equity with internal team members.

TYPE OF SUPERVISION: Receive general direction from the Associate Vice Chancellor, Information Systems.

General Direction — indicates that the incumbent receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and is responsible for establishing the methods to attain them. Generally the incumbent is in charge of an area of work; and typically formulates policy for this area but does not necessarily have final authority for approving policy.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Percentage

  • Work with vendors and technical services to set up or upgrade application servers.
  • Maintain existing middleware systems and application server including Apache, Tomcat, WSO2, RabbitMQ
  • Work with vendors and technical services to setup single sign on
  • Manage SSL certificates
  • Create, maintain, and administer Jenkins, UC4, Crontab, and Informatica controllers and agents
  • Administer Postgres Databases and Jira Bitbucket Code Repositories
  • Design, implement, and manage continuous deployment practices. Manage continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Coordinate vulnerability scan fixes with the Information Systems and Technical Services teams
  • Assist in maintaining applications and systems master risk register
  • Mentor other team members on the best practices for DevOps and Security
  • Perform other duties as assigned

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. A graduate degree is highly desirable. 
  • 10+ years’ experience as a DevOps Engineer or similar software engineering role
  • Desired to have AWS DevOps Engineer and Redhat Engineer Certifications
  • Strong experience with AWS services, including EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, and CloudFormation
  • Experience in network, server, and application-status monitoring

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong command of software automation production systems such as Jenkins and Ansible.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Ruby and Bash.
  • Knowledge of code versioning tools such as Git.
  • Skill in managing and prioritizing multiple initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering technical growth and team development.
  • Expertise in diagnosing and resolving complex system issues under tight time constraints.
  • Capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and documenting processes clearly.
