Destiny Principal Community Manager - Hybrid / Bungie-Approved Remote Locations

Bungie is looking for a seasoned community expert to lead our community and communications teams on Destiny 2. This role is a key member of Destiny 2’s franchise marketing leadership and development team driving strategic alignment, innovation, and end-to-end execution attached to the GTM and commercial goals of Destiny 2. As a leader, this person will impart their deep community and communications knowledge to their team – working through individuals but also getting work across the finish line daily. This role is a consummate strategist and able to deftly navigate even the most challenging of communication scenarios.

The ideal candidate has extensive background working with development teams and understands the nuances to game development. As the foremost community and communications expert on the Destiny 2 marketing team, they know how to tell stories and inspire diverse player audiences - both internally to the team and externally to the players, across local and international regions.  This person has built many game communities before and ideally in a live service environment. Driving trust and two-way communication with the Destiny 2 community is one of our core pillars.

Always thinking about the future, this candidate must have strong opinions, loosely held, on trends and where channels, community, and the industry are heading.  This role craves innovation and isn’t afraid to try risky initiatives in service of breaking new ground on the next hottest thing. Proficient in both reactive and live settings, ideally including on camera, this person educates and motivates their peers to uphold the highest standards expected by our players.

This role reports to the Franchise Marketing Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In close collaboration with the Destiny 2 development team and franchise marketing leadership, develop, manage and execute creative and strategic community and communications plans for the global launch and daily Destiny 2 live game that is seamlessly integrated into the broader marketing campaign and sets a gold standard for the industry.
  • Build trust with players worldwide by being an advocate internally and championing authentic and transparent communication for players.
  • Create a data-informed culture among teams in idea conception and results. Seamlessly blends data and player insights into recommendations that secures cross-functional alignment and drives measurable, customer-oriented executions in partnership with business intelligence and analytics.
  • Articulate strategy but also roll up the sleeves and execute tactics as needed. Align strategy and results through effective collaboration across multiple teams.
  • Direct, mentor and support the daily priorities, work deliverables and overall team bandwidth, manage team members as appropriate and be accountable for their growth.
  • Provide feedback and manage the day-to-day execution of the communications budget with the franchise marketing and international leadership teams.
  • Evaluate and collaborate with agencies that assist in executing the marketing campaign from a community perspective. If needed, onboard, manage, and hold agencies accountable to industry KPIs.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • 10+ years of experience in gaming, technology, or entertainment companies in a community role, with broad communications expertise. Deep familiarity and experience with live game franchises and their respective online player communities.
  • Established experience working in a community capacity on a live service game or product across international communities and time zones.
  • Proven experience building and managing player communities.
  • Strategic thinker and a modern communicator with proven results that clearly drive commercial goals.
  • Management skills with proven experience driving results from a talented team of high-performing individual contributors.
  • Concise communicator in presentation, verbal, and written copy, with the ability to transform complex principles into player-friendly messages on deadline.
  • Experience finding and presenting proactive and creative solutions to unplanned challenges and changing objectives to stakeholders in development and publishing leadership.
  • Ability to quantify results with sophisticated data analysis and metrics.
  • High level of organization with excellent time-management skills.
  • Crisis-management experience, able to anticipate upcoming situations, escalate a solution-driven plan, communicate to stakeholders and execute in a timely manner relevant to the crisis.
  • Bonus points for experience in related genres: first person shooters and live games
Listed below is this role's base pay range. In other locations that Bungie has approved for remote work, this pay range may be adjusted up to +/- 10% and some roles may be classified as non-exempt (hourly). 

This range is determined by an array of factors, including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Additionally, it is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

  • 20 days of accrued time-off in the form of PTO and sabbatical days, depending on the level of the position
  • 10 paid Floating Days annually, prorated in the first year of employment based on start date
  • 10 paid Bungie-observed holidays annually
  • One hour of Paid Sick Time (PST) for every 30 hours worked
