JOB SUMMARY: 
The Design Standards Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining design standards across all projects to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with organizational goals. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams, including architects, engineers, designers, and project managers, to oversee adherence to established guidelines, drive innovation, and enhance the overall aesthetic and functional outcomes of projects.

The position requires up to 25% travel to support design initiatives, conduct site visits, and collaborate with project teams in various locations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Development and Maintenance of Standards: 

  • Manage and track the creation of design standards, guidelines, and templates for all projects. 

  • Ensure design standards align with industry best practices, brand identity, and organizational goals. 

Compliance and Quality Assurance: 

  • Review project designs to ensure compliance with established standards and regulations. 
  • Conduct regular audits to monitor adherence to design guidelines. 
  • Provide constructive feedback to teams to maintain consistency and quality. 

Process standards and Communication: 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project milestones by facilitating the hand off between real estate, design, construction, and other teams. 
  • Collaborate with architects, designers, and project teams to integrate standards into project workflows. 
  • Manage external vendors by requesting proposals and reviewing designs for compliance with Sky Zone design standards 
  • Pre-development phases, verify the architects due diligence was thoroughly completed per Sky Zone standards. Facilitate the discussion of any anomalies that would affect a projects schedule or budget. Such as CUP, change of use, zoning, seismic upgrades, etc 
  • After lease execution,  oversee landlord communication to ensure critical dates in the process are met. 

Innovation and Improvement: 

  • Identify opportunities to enhance existing design standards based on feedback, technological advancements, and emerging trends. 
  • Research and implement innovative materials, tools, and design methodologies. 

 Documentation and Reporting: 

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of design standards and revisions. 
  • Provide reports to senior management on compliance metrics and improvement initiatives. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • 5+ years of experience in design management, architecture, or a similar role. 
  • Certification in design management or related disciplines (e.g., LEED, NCIDQ, or PMP) preferred. 
  • Experience with sustainable design practices or innovative technologies (e.g., BIM, VR/AR) preferred. 

Competencies: 

  • Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams. 
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. 
  • Effective time management and organizational skills. 

 

PREFERRED SKILLS: 

  • Strong knowledge of design principles, building codes, and industry standards. 
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite). 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and consistency. 

 

EDUCATION: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Engineering, or a related field. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • This position requires the ability to remain stationary for extended periods while working at a desk or computer, move around to inspect project sites or collaborate with teams, and occasionally lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

Compensation range is $85-$100k + bonus based on qualifications, experience, and performance. Full-time employees at Sky Zone enjoy a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage along with a 401k plan with company matching.
