Design Engineer - Studies – Power Plant Controller Modeling

The Opportunity
Ulteig is currently seeking talented and motivated Design Engineer - Studies level engineering candidates to support power system studies and modeling within the renewable energy markets. This position would focus on modeling power plant controllers at various stages of a renewable project, including early-stage work for an Interconnection Application.
What You'll Do
The design engineer for Power Plant Controller modeling is expected to perform the following tasks:
- Work closely with the Ulteig Plant SCADA team to understand the power plant controller product that is designed in house and implemented at solar PV and BESS sites.
- Update and maintain the custom plant controller models that are developed in house (in PSSE, PSCAD and TSAT software packages)
- Incorporate the plant controller models into overall plant models and conduct dynamic simulations to test the performance of the plant. Tune the parameters to meet regional requirements.
- Advise internal teams on how the plant controller parameters should be implemented in the field to meet regional requirements.
- Work with developer clients and system operators/transmission owners to understand any model performance feedback and make updates to the model accordingly.
- Understand the fast paced nature of early-stage interconnection work and the need to respond to feedback and questions quickly.
What We Expect from You
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required, ABET accredited program, or equivalent required
- A minimum of 2 years of working experience, with at least 1 years of experience directly related to power systems
- Experience with steady-state analysis and/or dynamic analysis utilizing PSS®E or PSCAD (not mandatory, but looking for someone with a willingness to learn these software packages)
- Experience with programming
- Familiarity with control block diagrams.
- Any experience with voltage regulation/plant controllers is not mandatory, but preferred.
- Willing to learn new software and programming languages and is motivated to learn independently
- Independently completes assigned tasks required and actively manages individual workload
- Must be a self-starter and willing to identify improvements and implement them, utilizing support from others
- Must be comfortable asking questions to team when learning new skills
- Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude
- Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, clients and external agencies
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess a valid Canadian Driver’s License and ability to meet company driving standards
- Must have the ability to travel across the United States and Canada

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $75,600 - $102,400 CAD
