Fender Musical Instruments Corporation is a world famous brand with offices across the globe. Within Fender Musical Instruments Corporation’s ("FMIC") R&D team, we are designing electric and/or acoustic guitars and basses for Specialty brands such as Jackson, Gretsch, EVH, and Charvel.

We are searching for a Design Engineer III based in either Corona, CA or Scottsdale, AZ. This position is responsible for the design of electric and/or acoustic guitars and basses and associated components from initial concepts through release to manufacturing and ensures that the designs meet marketing requirements as well as department design standards. This position works with Manufacturing on new designs to assure manufacturability, provides technical support on products already in production and works collaboratively with the product management team, other engineers, CAD specialists, model shop and support personnel, and management.
Essential Functions:
- With minimal supervision, design new instruments and modify existing designs, ensuring that all design standards and marketing requirements are maintained
- With minimal supervision, devise solutions to technical problems that arise in production
- Create engineering change notices as necessary
- Communicate with Marketing and Manufacturing team members regarding design decisions and trade-offs and obtain appropriate input to ensure the quality of the design
- Use CAD tools to create drawings for new designs and to modify existing designs
- Set up and evaluate prototype, pilot and production instruments to assess quality and accuracy to specifications
- Communicate with, design and evaluate musical instrument products with global OEM partners
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Science in Mechancal Engineering or equivalent is required
- Five or more years of Solidworks experience
- Five years or more of experience working in high-volume consumer product manufacturing required
- Proficiency with typical business applications – e-mail, Excel, Word, etc. – is required
- Excellent technical and non-technical, verbal and written communications skills are required
- Proficiency with AutoCad, CamWorks and/or Mastercam is desired
- Experience playing a musical instrument, preferably with strings, is desired
- Woodworking and instrument building/repair experience is desired; guitar wiring experience a big plus

Please note that it is not typical for a Fender employee to be at or near the top of the pay scale for their role – especially as a new hire – and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Subject to the foregoing, the current pay scale for this position is $95,000.00 – $120,000.00
