Newsweek seeks a Deputy Weekend Editor to join our editorial team and help lead our coverage of national and international news on Saturdays and Sundays.
You will be responsible for assigning, editing and publishing stories. You will be covering any story that matters to a Newsweek audience, from an Elon Musk post to the fall of a city in Ukraine, a celebrity death or a court filing.
You will also oversee breaking news coverage and ensure that our stories are accurate, engaging and informative.
You will work closely with our reporters, editors and producers across different platforms.
You will report to the Weekend Editor.
Responsibilities
- Plan, assign and edit stories across, news, politics, international news, entertainment news and trends.
- Monitor news sources and social media for breaking news and emerging trends.
- Coordinate with reporters, editors and multimedia producers to ensure timely and comprehensive coverage.
- Write headlines, captions and summaries that capture the essence and impact of the stories.
- Ensure that all stories adhere to our editorial standards and guidelines.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, political science or related field.
- At least five years of experience as a reporter or editor, preferably in a digital media environment.
- Strong knowledge of US politics and the major issues affecting the country.
- Excellent news judgment and editing skills, with an eye for detail, accuracy and clarity.
Salary range: $90,000 - $115,000
