This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Summary:The Database Administrator Senior is responsible for administering, testing, and implementing computer database system(s) as assigned, and coordinating changes to the database system(s) as needed. This position will identify, investigate, and resolve any database performance issues and will also implement security measures to ensure the safeguard of the database system(s).
Job Duties:Subject Matter Expert
-Providing subject-matter expertise for for the team
-Supporting team performance as the first point of escalation for those in the functional roles, as needed
-Assisting in interviewing job applicants, as needed
-Assisting in the onboarding and job training of training new hires, as needed
-Contributing to the development of more junior staff
-Coordinating and communicating with Database vendor to resolve escalated issues
-Recommending current and future database and system changes
System Support & Administration
-Analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves database or production issues
-Tests databases and makes necessary modifications to meet functionality requirements
-Reviews, plans, coordinates, and implements appropriate security measures, guidelines and mechanisms
-Performs database maintenance functions
-Engages with developers to understand functional requirements and make necessary changes to the database to facilitate.
-Reviews and recommends improvements to existing architectures
-Assists with developing purge/archive criteria and procedures for historical data
-Pro-actively monitors system performance and makes changes accordingly
Programming
-Creates deliverables according to the Software Development Life Cycle to include writing and coding database scripts to create or modify database objects as defined in project requirements or to resolve production issues
-Translates project requirements into database design with documentation
-Design, test and implement database backups and restores
-Performance tunes, reviews and recommends improvements to existing code
Documentation
-Develops standards and guidelines for database use and protection
-Identifies and documents functional and technical database specifications
-Documents data requirements in a logical Entity Relationship Diagram
-Educates developers and maintains database documentation
Education & Experience
- Any combination that meets the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA); typical ways KSAs are obtained may include but are not limited to: a relevant degree from an accredited college or university such as Bachelor’s Degree (e.g., B.A.), training, coursework, and work experience relevant to the assignment.
- Minimum of five years database administration experience
- Previous experience in database design, provisioning and administration
Licenses & Certifications

Knowledge/Understanding
- Working Knowledge of computer database management systems, applications, and programming languages
- Knowledge of the Software Development Life-Cycle
- Knowledge of IT release and configuration management
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of object-oriented programming principles
- Deep understanding of monitoring, database diagnostic and analytics tools.
Skills

- Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and work in high-pressure situations
- Proficient in the use of a PC in a Windows environment; in the use of the Internet; in the use of MS Office Applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel, PowerPoint; and in the use of Google Suite applications such as Gmail, Sheets, Docs, and Drive
Advanced proficiency SQL and Linux Shell scripting, database design, database implementation, database administration, troubleshooting databases and db servers
- Proficient in Linux-based systems: Oracle Databases, Active DataGuard, WebLogic, OEM and RMAN system backups
Abilities
- Ability to clear a comprehensive background and clearance process that includes an Arizona tax compliance verification, and a criminal background check through the FBI via level one fingerprint clearance through the Arizona Department of Public Safety
- Ability to develop and write technical documentation, to model and design relational databases, to install and support relational database management systems (RDMS), and to evaluate and test emerging technologies
- Ability to apply creative solutions to business problems to ensure business needs are most effective
- Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and also participate collaboratively as part of a team
- Ability to work in a confidential manner, ensuring information is shared with internal and external individuals in an appropriate manner
- Ability to understand and solve problems by applying intermediate analytical skills to include collecting all the relevant information and data needed to address the problem; organizing, classifying and synthesizing the data into fundamental issues; from the information, identifying the most probable causes of the problem; reducing the information down into manageable components; identifying the logical outcomes from the analyses of the data collected; and, identifying the options and solutions for addressing the problems analyzed.

- This position functions in a standard office environment with the physical demand of prolonged sitting and/or standing, manual dexterity, and seeing
- Additional mental demands include continuous analysis of complex database environments
- Experience in SQL, PL/SQL, Linux shell scripting
- Experience in OAP, Oracle WebLogic (Forms/Reports)
- Experience in on-prem, Hybrid Cloud and Public Cloud architectures
- Oracle DB experience in19c-21c, High Availability, RAC, Data Guard, Active Data Guard and OEM
- Experience and/or knowledge of continuous improvement or LEAN concepts and principles
