As part of New York Life Direct, you'll join a team revolutionizing the life insurance experience for AARP members. We're the industry leader in direct-to-consumer life insurance, offering streamlined coverage directly to individuals, bypassing traditional agent models. This position primarily involves a hybrid work schedule - working remotely: Monday & Friday / on site: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Work Schedule: Hybrid—in-office Tuesday through Thursday; remote Monday and Friday.
About the Team: The Data Science team operates as a strategic partner to business units across New York Life Direct. We support initiatives across marketing, underwriting, actuarial, operations, and fraud prevention by delivering tailored analytics, experimentation, and predictive modeling. We thrive on solving impactful, real-world business challenges with data.
Role Overview: We are looking for an early-career Data Scientist to join our team and support the design, development, and delivery of data science solutions that inform business decisions. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment while learning from experienced team members and contributing to meaningful projects.
What You’ll Do:
• Support data science projects from end to end: data exploration, modeling, and results communication
• Work with statistical and machine learning techniques
• Clean, wrangle, and prepare datasets for analysis using programming and data manipulation tools
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business problems and deliver data-driven insights
• Present findings through visualizations, reports, and presentations tailored to diverse audiences
• Learn best practices for model development, testing, deployment, and monitoring
What You Bring:
• Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Statistics, Applied Math, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or similar
• 1–2 years of experience applying data science methods in a business setting
• Experience with R and/or Python; Experience with SQL
• Solid understanding of statistical methods and predictive modeling
• Ability to work with large and varied datasets
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Curiosity, attention to detail, and eagerness to grow as a data scientist
• Internship or academic project experience in analytics or data science

Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $65,000-$85,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
