Who we are:

Financial Information Systems (FIS) is located within Central Finance and Business in the Office of Budget and Finance. FIS is a small, non-academic, multifaceted information technology department. We are responsible for the web presence of the Office of Budget and Finance, creating and maintaining web applications for various units within the Office of Budget and Finance including the Office of the Bursar, administration and support of Penn State’s purchasing card reconciliation and reimbursement system, support Penn State’s budgeting system, and report creation from a multitude of data sources from within the University to support executives and financial officers.

What we are looking for:

  • Data Reporting Specialist, Professional or Intermediate Professional Level.
  • Located at the University Park Campus.
  • Hybrid work schedule or fully in person (fully remote is not an option for this opportunity).

Your role:

As a Data Reporting Specialist in FIS, you will be an involved team member and will have the opportunity to work with all the FIS teams. You will work in partnership on various projects that extend across not only Budget and Finance, but also Budget and Finance’s parent unit of Finance and Business. You will have the opportunity to offer your expertise on all aspects of data modeling and report design/delivery.

Responsible for, but not limited to the following:  

  • Analyze requirements and determine data needs for stakeholders.
  • Meet with stakeholders and analyze reporting needs and solutions.
  • Prepare reports using tools such as MS Power BI, MS Excel, other Microsoft Office tools and in-house reporting tools.
  • Maintain existing and future report/data delivery.
  • Create processes that will streamline and/or improve workflows.
  • Prepare test plans for reports that you have changed or created.
  • Write and maintain diverse types of documentation.
  • Advise customers by providing presentations, including training on products that you have created.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • This position will be filled as a Professional or Intermediate Professional level, depending on the final candidate's experience and education. The Professional level requires a minimum of an Associate’s Degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional education and/or experience are required for Intermediate Professional level.

Required Skills:

  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Initiative-taking.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to assess assigned tasks and recognize priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently.

Preferred skills:

  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Suite of applications including MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Power BI.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as DAX, Python, SQL. 
  • Possess an acuity for the finer details.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$38,300.00 - $61,000.00
