Position Summary/Job Duties:
The Court Record Database (CRD) project has been collecting data on child support, child custody, and child placement for over 40 years. CRD has been used to influence social policy change and has helped to create more equitable court statues surrounding child and family well-being. One of the more notable changes to social policy being in 2004 with the addition of the shared placement guidelines to the Wisconsin State Statutes which allowed the courts, and attorneys, to take time spent with the children into account when calculating child support.
We will train the person to record custody, placement, visitation, and child support data as described in Wisconsin family court cases (Divorces and Paternities). The candidate will use a coding decision manual to make decisions and enter the information into a computerized instrument. Gain real world social science and legal research experience including reviewing court documents and legal orders; qualitative data coding and data entry; and filling out questionnaires.
Learn more about how the state, and attorneys, use the Wisconsin Statutes to set child support, child custody, and child placement for families and its implications on family well-being.
Willing to work with students to help meet requirements for internship credits.
