Ocean Associates, Inc. is seeking a part-time Data Analyst (economist/social science) to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Coastal Resilience and Fisheries Management investments. OAI is a Virginia corporation established in 2003 that provides consulting and technical services to the U.S. government, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, and the private sector. We specialize in scientific program and project management, strategic planning, professional and technical services, and stakeholder engagement, supporting government contracts. 

Duties:

  • Performing policy analyses, potentially including benefit-cost analyses.
  • Implementing quantitative and/or qualitative research approaches.
  • Developing and implementing surveys and interviews using standard and innovative social science techniques.
  • Performing program evaluation using standard and innovative quantitative and/or qualitative methods and techniques.
  • Preparing written reports, memoranda, spreadsheet models, and presentations for both technical and lay-audiences.
  • Developing and maintaining spreadsheets of analyses and providing written summaries of analyses performed.

Start Date: Late September to early October.

Location: Work will be performed remotely..

Salary and Benefits: This is a part-time position with benefits. Salary: $40.00 to $45.00 per hour. In case of a catastrophic event, weekend work may be required. 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in a field such as Economics, Social Science or Policy Analysis with application in a climate, environmental, or natural resource context (fisheries, coastal and ocean management, resilience, climate, etc.) or a Master's degree in an environmental field such as Environmental Science, Fisheries, Coastal Management with a history of applying economic and social science techniques within these fields.  Minimum of 2 years total relevant experience. Those with a Ph.D. are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct both quantitative and qualitative technical analyses.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate analyses and findings to various stakeholders in non-technical language, including senior government officials.
  • Ability to work and meet deadlines in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and TEAMS) and the similar Google Suite or products.
