The Information Technology Department at the Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS) manages the technology and computer infrastructure that drives the Agency’s business systems and automation requirements. The IT department manages infrastructure, software, and technical workflows that support the WHS's numerous program areas, 12 historic locations around the state, and its headquarters building in downtown Madison, WI.

Qualifications:

*WORK STUDY REQUIRED*
Currently enrolled as a student in a relevant field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics).
Knowledge of data management principles and best practices.
Able to learn new software and technologies
Able to work independently and as part of a team

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proficiency in data manipulation and analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python, Tableau Prep).
Experience with data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
Previous experience in a data analysis role.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Under the general supervision of the Business Intelligence and Data Program Officer, the Wisconsin Historical Society IT department is seeking a motivated student worker to join our team as a data analyst, responsible for automating data collection, preparing data for analysis, and creating compelling visualizations.

Key Responsibilities:
• Data Acquisition and Preparation
o Extract data from various internal and external sources (e.g., databases, spreadsheets, APIs)
o Clean and validate data for accuracy and consistency
o Transform raw data into a structured format for analysis
o Create and maintain data dictionaries and documentation

• Data Analysis and Visualization
o Utilize data analysis techniques to identify trends, patterns, and insights
o Develop and produce informative data visualizations
o Communicate findings effectively through clear and concise presentations
o Support data-driven decision making by providing actionable insights

• Additional Responsibilities
o Assist with data-related projects and initiatives
o Provide support to team members with data analysis requests
o Maintain data confidentiality and security
