Definition of Class

Data Analyst I
This position collects and analyzes data, evaluates reliability and sustainability of assessments and produces complex reports. The incumbent frequently exercises discretion and independent judgment in interpreting, presenting and communicating results of complex statistical analysis in writing, verbally, and graphically for diverse audiences.

 

Data Analyst II
This position collects and analyzes data, evaluates reliability and sustainability of assessments, produces complex reports, and recommends additional analyses as necessary. The incumbent exercises discretion and independent judgment in interpreting, presenting and communicating results of complex statistical analysis in writing, verbally, and graphically for diverse audiences.

 

The Data Analyst will collect, retrieve, organize, analyze, validate, and report data required for institutional research, effectiveness, decision-making, and reporting processes of the institution. The incumbent completes voluntary and compulsory surveys, including college directories and publications; responds to stakeholder data requests; identifies data visualization needs; and completes questionnaires received by the University. The Data Analyst should demonstrate a strong attention to detail; the ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy; the ability to examine data critically; and contribute to the improvement of data sources, data visualizations, and use of data by stakeholders. Remote/Hybrid telework possible.

Examples of Work Performed

• Conducts complex statistical analyses, such as logistic regression, using SAS, SPSS, R, or other statistical software to analyze a wide variety of data.
• Prepares and disseminates various reports to the Mississippi Board of Trustees of Institutions of Higher Learning, the Federal Government, and the University administration.
• Serves as primary contact to internal and external individuals requesting data
• Coordinates data collection across campus partners to complete external data requests.
• Completes questionnaires from outside agencies on behalf of the university.
• Provides historical research information for statistical studies and ad hoc requests.
• Responds to time-critical ad-hoc requests. 
• Responds to requests for data from multiple constituents
• Coordinates the dissemination of compiled data reports and completion of surveys to campus, institutional, state, and federal agencies and constituencies.
• Works with appropriate units across the University to gather necessary information.
• Facilitates the submission and analysis of national surveys on behalf of the university.
