Dance Instructor

Department Overview:

Monona Academy of Dance was opened in 1948 by Jean Adams and is now owned and operated by her daughter, JoJean Retrum. Monona Academy of Dance is dedicated to creating an atmosphere which fosters self-esteem, discipline, and positive influences, all of which can be carried into many other aspects of the student’s life. The school focuses on building strong technique in multiple genres of dance that will last a lifetime. Alumni have gone on to work for American Ballet Theatre, Broadway productions, regional companies, Disney cruise and park performers, and more.

1.5-2 hours teaching Wednesday and/or Thursday evenings with possibility of another 1-2 hours of adult classes

Salary/Wage Range:

Hourly $25.00 to $35.00

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Location: Monona Academy of Dance (within the Sun Prairie Ice Arena) 838 Grove St, Sun Prairie, WI

Teacher needed at our Sun Prairie location for dancers 3-10 yrs with possibility of teaching some of our adult classes. Previous ballet training is required. Materials, training, and handbooks are available for help in teaching Pre-Ballet levels. At least beginning level tap and jazz experience is preferred. 

Qualifications:

Essential Duties: Arrive 15 minutes before start of class.

Teach age/developmentally appropriate material and play age appropriate music for students.

Classroom management skills and awareness of student needs. 

Communicate effectively with parents verbally, and communicate any issues to office administrative staff. 

Choreograph level appropriate dance for recital at end of the year. 

Communicates clearly and quickly when there are schedule conflicts with owner and office staff.  

Skills/Qualifications/Requirements: Previous dance training required (ballet required).

Teaching experience is a plus but not required.

Must have own transportation.

Reliable and Responsible instructor is a must.

Ability to demonstrate skills to young dancers.

Physical Demands

Must be able to demonstrate skills to students. This includes dancing, stretching, skipping, leaping, etc.
