Stellar Virtual was founded in 2019 with one school in Texas. We serve parents of K-12 students, unhappy with their current school, or needing an at-home/flexible learning environment. Today, Stellar Virtual has grown to six schools across three states: Texas, Arizona, and Indiana. Stellar Virtual is committed to going above and beyond for our virtual families.

Position Overview
Stellar Virtual is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Crisis Counselor to support the emotional and mental well-being of K-12 students in alignment with Texas state guidelines for crisis counseling in education. The Crisis Counselor will serve as a critical resource in providing immediate support during crises, helping students develop coping skills, and promoting a safe and supportive virtual learning environment. This role is pivotal in ensuring the emotional resilience of our students as they navigate the challenges of a virtual school setting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • One Number: 100% Compliance
  • Provide crisis intervention services to K-12 students experiencing emotional distress, suicidal ideation, or other emergencies, adhering to Texas Education Code requirements for school counselors.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans in collaboration with students, families, and external resources as needed.
  • Maintain communication with parents, caregivers, and external support services to ensure continuity of care and compliance with mandatory reporting requirements under Texas law.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and school staff to identify students in need of support and develop proactive intervention strategies.
  • Deliver individual and group counseling sessions focused on coping skills, resilience building, and emotional regulation.
  • Provide resources and referrals to community-based services, mental health professionals, or emergency services as appropriate.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of school-wide crisis response plans, ensuring compliance with state guidelines and alignment with Stellar Virtual's policies.
  • Develop and deliver training to staff on identifying warning signs of emotional distress and protocols for addressing crises.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of all counseling services, including case notes, assessments, and follow-up actions, in accordance with FERPA, HIPAA, and Texas state regulations.
  • Stay current on best practices, legal requirements, and resources related to school-based crisis counseling in Texas.


Knowledge, Skills & Attributes 

  • Minimum of two years of experience in counseling, with a focus on crisis intervention or school counseling preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Texas Education Code § 33.005-33.007 related to counselor responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations, including students with disabilities, English learners, and students from varying cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in virtual communication platforms and technology.


Education & Certification Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • A bachelor's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is preferred.
  • Texas state certification as a School Counselor (or eligibility to obtain certification) or licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or equivalent.
