The base salary range for a Counsel role is $79,200.00 to $150,400.00.  Actual salaries will vary by geographic location and are based on factors such as candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, competencies, and company equity. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan based on company performance and individual performance.  

Counsel Overview

As Counsel, you will be responsible for analyzing legislation and regulatory requirements, preparing, and interpreting legal documents, and reviewing company policies to ensure compliance, and mitigate risk. You will work as a business partner, providing legal advice and support to the benefit of the Company’s goals, strategy, and values. 

Essential Duties:

  • Prepare regulatory filings and assist with preparing responses to federal and state administrative and regulatory agencies in their oversight and audit of the Company’s operations and Company’s business 
  • Provide legal support to business functional areas to ensure compliance and mitigate risk
  • Analyze legislation and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance  
  • Draft contracts, policies and other documents needed to support Company’s strategy, values and goals 
  • Understands and take measures to ensure Company compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies and Code of conduct 
  • Supports Corporate governance requirements 
  • Research and advises on legislative and regulatory requirements 
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage a wide range of audiences 
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to be seen as a trusted advisor  
  • Ability to interpret statutes, regulations, policies and other contracts 
  • Ability to identify risk and provide solutions that supports company goals while mitigating risk and maintaining compliance 
  • Decision-making ability to set work priorities and make recommendations 
  • Unquestionable integrity, strong work ethic, strong business acumen, and good judgment

Required Education and Experience:

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school 
  • Active member of a US State bar 
  • Minimum 1- 4 yrs of experience 
  • Regulatory experience in:  Dental insurance, ACA/Healthcare Reform, Regulatory filings, Dental product rate & form filing compliance, and Medicare Advantage

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience in federal and/or state regulatory requirements governing Life, Disability, Dental, Supplemental and/or Absence and Leave Management Insurance products 
  • 5+ years experience as a practicing lawyer
  • Experience in Insurance Regulation and/or experience in highly regulated environment or industry
