Corporate Environmental and Sustainability Legal Affairs Director
Job Summary:
Lead and provide specialized legal and regulatory guidance practices for the enterprise (Consumer Products and Healthcare), across our products and their lifecycles (from sourcing to end-of-life disposal), ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation and regulatory affairs, including raw materials and ingredients registration, evaluation, authorization, restriction of chemicals (REACH and others), Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Packaging and Packaging Waste Reduction (PPWR), Single Use Packaging and Foodservice ware prohibitions (SUPP), Problematic Products (EPS, FPS, PFAs, etc), Disposing, Recycling and/or Reuse policies among others. Ensure that the company's products and components are legally compliant with all these regulations and collaborate with stakeholders worldwide to design, implement and execute plans when needed.
Major Job Responsibilities:
Product Stewardship.
- Lead and coordinate corporate product stewardship initiatives across the global organization (Consumer and Healthcare Products), ensuring that each raw material and product meets regulatory, environmental and sustainability requirements throughout its lifecycle (raw materials, processing conversion, use, end of life).
- Ensure transparency in product claims, labeling and identification to comply with laws and regulations against “greenwashing” (FTC Green Guide USA, Green Claims Directive EU).
Sustainable Packaging.
- Lead, provide and communicate to the different businesses sustainable packaging legislation and recommend actions to prevent risks, guarantee business continuity and compliance related to EPR, PPWR, SUPP, problematic material bans, other requirements and alike.
Environmental Compliance
- Advise on compliance with environmental laws and regulations related to ESG, packaging and components, problematic materials, EPR, PPWR, recycled content, and recycling policies across key regions, including North and Latin America, and Europe.
- Monitor and interpret relevant environmental legislation and regulations at local, national, and international levels, supporting all stake-holders.
- Lead business processes that ensure that the company’s global operations, products, and conversion processes proactively meet all environmental and sustainability requirements.
Regulatory Affairs
- Support the different areas of the company along with other team members in discussions with regulatory agencies regarding REACH, ESG, EPR, PPWR, SUPP, recycled content, and recycling standards in North and Latin America, Europe, and other relevant markets.
- Support and initiate road mapping and monitoring activities with business stakeholders and experts for the different product families of the organization to be able to anticipate solutions and alternatives to products or materials under risk.
- Participate in the development of global policy positions and advocacy strategies related to ESG, PPWR, EPR, REACH and others.
Global Policy Development and Advocacy
- Support the creation and implementation of corporate policies on environmental compliance, sustainable packaging, and any other legislation initiative that are applicable across multiple regions.
Training and Education
- Develop and deliver training programs for internal stakeholders on raw materials environmental compliance, EPR, PPWR, SUPP and other legal or regulatory related policies, with content tailored to different geographies.
- Stay informed about global and regional developments in environmental and sustainable related legal initiatives aligned with coming or existing regulations, being proactive and sharing relevant insights across the organization.

Technical Skills:
- Technical knowledge of local and international sustainability and environmental regulations and legislation initiatives (REACH, ESG, EPR, PPWR, SUPP, product bans, etc.) in the different geographies of interest.
- Proven track record of success in corporate policy development related to environmental and sustainability related areas.
- Familiarity with packaging related conversion processes and materials.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience with the focus in environmental, product sustainability related legislation and regulations knowledge.
- Preferred experience in similar roles in the packaging and/or material related areas.
Education:
- Engineering and/or Public Policy and/or Legal degree from an accredited engineering, public policy or law school.
- Proficient in use of Office* platform, databases, legal / regulatory applications (Fiscal Note*, Enhesa*, Quorum*, etc), search engines and alike.
We are flexible on the job location and could either offer home office, plant office or business office in any of our locations. Willing to travel on a global scale to R&D centers, manufacturing locations, or customers as needed.
Salary of $170,000 to $195,000 DOE
