Copywriter (Contract)

NerdWallet is looking for a versatile copywriter to join our highly collaborative, centralized team of copywriters. Too often, the world of personal finance is obscure, stuffy, and promotional — leaving people feeling confused or, worse, manipulated. But, NerdWallet’s changing all that. 

As a copywriter you will be writing for a variety of channels, leveraging performance data and user insights, and occasionally developing strategic hypotheses to shape your work. You’ll utilize NerdWallet’s brand voice (along with our Nerdy expertise) to help make personal finance more palatable for the masses. This role will report to a Creative Director. 

Want to join us? As a qualified candidate, you’ll be proficient in creative copywriting via various channels including, but not limited to landing pages, social ads, email, and podcasts with a creative portfolio that showcases your past work. We want a copywriter that can write about money in a way that’s both enjoyable to read and encompasses all the nerdy details needed to help make people make smarter decisions. Additionally, you should have a strong grasp of UX and be able to identify ways to make our content easier to digest — whether it’s through language, formatting, or design. 

Also a must? Partnering closely with our marketing partners to proactively refine strategy, improve the work and identify new areas to test to improve business metrics. 

You will work closely with our designers to bring ideas to life across multiple channels and project types, so collaboration is key. 

Where you can make an impact: 

  • Making an otherwise drab topic like personal finance be enjoyable to read. And at the same time, ensuring that your copy is rooted in strategy and business goals.
  • Writing in multiple channels and styles including landing pages, social media, email, product, as well as headline-driven placements.
  • Having the ability to expertly review layouts and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Organizing and documenting work so that it is easy to share with your collaborators and stakeholders. This includes creating organized copy docs and being able to utilize collaborative tools like Figma.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally to ensure content and visuals work together and that your work  goes out on time and on brand — checking off both business and brand objectives.
  • Digesting performance metrics and staying on top of industry trends and standard processes.
  • Understanding how your work fits into and supports the larger NerdWallet customer journey.  
  • Sharing your work across teams and with your fellow content strategists. Expertly articulating your creative approach as well as the results from messaging testing.

You are:

  • A writer: You love the process of writing – refining your work so that it flows smoothly, is filled with substance and voice, and is enjoyable to read. 
  • Strategic and insightful: As a creative problem solver, you are able to leverage insights from briefs, brand strategy and user research and apply it to your projects. You are interested in testing and experimentation to continuously push the brand and copy to be as performant as possible. You can effectively communicate your ideas and design decisions to others through presentation or written communication.   
  • Eager to learn:You have a strong learning mindset, are a fast learner, and are eager to partner closely with your manager and peers to grow and develop your technical skill set and evolve our brand.
  • Organized: You are able to document your copy so that it’s easily accessible and possible to leverage for future iterations of a project.
  • Collaborative: You have experience partnering cross-functionally with team members across marketing and product - from creating concepts and pitching ideas to delivery - in order to build best in class creative executions. You will partner closely with other copywriters and digital designers to help support projects. In a fast-paced, remote-first, dynamic working environment, you can handle quick feedback loops and fluctuate between jumping from campaigns to working on internal projects. You are an excellent communicator with other team members and stakeholders on project statuses, deadlines, and strategy.

Your experience:

  • 3-4 years of related experience as an in-house copywriter or at an advertising or marketing agency.
  • A strong portfolio — featuring compelling and thoughtful headlines, marketing campaigns, and/or product copy.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • A love of storytelling and thinking creatively to build impactful user experiences and marketing materials.
  • Bonus points: Experience writing about financial products (think credit cards, banking, mortgages/loans, insurance or investing.

Where:

  • This is a remote position and a person can be located anywhere in Canada (with the exception of Quebec).

Pay Transparency & Contract Details:

  • The hourly rate for this position is $55 CAD/hour
  • This is a W2 contract role hired by Magnit
  • The estimated schedule for this engagement would be 32 hours per week from January-December
  • This role is 100% remote
