You will help present content in a way that provides users with an engaging experience while ensuring each piece of content meets the high journalistic standards our readers expect from us.

  • Work closely with content creators and line editors to address issues, including fairness, tone, taste and holes in coverage in stories.

  • Spend appropriate time on tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare advance copy as time permits, helping to maintain flow of copy and decrease workload on daily deadline.
  • Offer regular feedback to managers about problematic content to help flesh out robust feedback for the newsroom in eliminating consistent mistakes/issues.
  • Report any identified content issues, as well as style, logistics, appropriateness and accuracy issues in stories, display, fact boxes, photos, etc.

  • Understand the intended audience and ensure the headline and story top are compelling for that audience.
  • Write headlines and other display that conveys the most interesting and important aspects of each story.
  • Write or rewrite photo captions so that they add supplemental information for the reader, eliminating static information from the provided cutline.
  • Test A/B headlines when appropriate.

Review copy for final publication on AJC.com and in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, paying attention to bias and balance and other mistakes that harm our credibility.

  • Review stories when published on AJC.com, ensuring they look correct and will provide users with a great experience.
  • Proofread finished print pages.
  • Verify jumps in print and links online.

  • Verify publication dates for comics, puzzles, etc.
  • Output pages and republish stories to digital as needed.
