Maximus is looking for a Controller to to help design, implement, and lead the accounting operations to support a mission-driven startup. You will focus on the timely and accurate production of financial reporting deliverables for the company’s internal and external stakeholders. This position will own the financial close process in accordance with GAAP and ensure that, as we scale, our accounting keeps pace. This role will partner closely with the Head of Finance to drive financial strategy, but should be comfortable running the day to day with minimal oversight. This role is expected to continue to grow and develop as the Company grows.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform month-end, quarter-end and year-end close tasks including journal entry preparation, variance reporting, reconciliations, and account analyses.

  • Will lead all efforts to manage accounting functions, develop processes and procedures for month and year end close, perform AP, AR, and revenue cycle.

  • Prepare and analyze monthly reclass journal entries between COGS, R&D and SGA.

  • Prepare fluctuation analysis with explanations for material, labor, and overhead COGS in financial statements.

  • Review customer contracts to ensure that revenue is recognized accurately in accordance with ASC 606. We have a subscription model, so experience with subscription based products is a must.

  • Work with the operations team to ensure timely and accurate inventory and COGS reporting.

  • Oversee company-wide payroll and ensure compliance with local tax authorities.

  • Participate in monthly, quarterly, and year end review procedures.

  • Assist with coordinating the preparing annual tax returns with outside CPA firm.

  • Provide financial support to users as required and assist with any other projects as needed.

  • Help design, implement, and maintain a thorough system of accounting processes, policies, and compliant controls.

  • Identify and propose best in class accounting tools and integrations to create more efficient and effective record keeping.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

Experience:

  • Industry: 5+ years in startup accounting financial statement preparation. Strong working knowledge of US GAAP principles and financial statements, including ASC 606. Startup experience is a MUST. You have to have experience building the plane as you fly.

  • CPA qualification required

  • Business Model: Experience with the friendly PC/MSO model commonly used in Telemedicine 

  • Systems: QBO and a strong knowledge of systems (tech savvy)

  • Analytics: Strong analytical orientation and a knack for solving new business problems as they arise.

  • Relationship-builder: Excellent oral and written communication skills, and able to work with a variety of personality types and skill levels
