Aviation Claims Specialist

What can you expect?

  • This role works closely with the Aviation Claims Advocates on issues ranging from coverage and claims advocacy to facilitating relationships among clients, insurers, and counsel.
  • Working on an “exception matters only” brief, the Aviation Claims Specialist will “own” the claim process (oversee, administer, monitor, engage when necessary), and be responsible for claim progress from first notice of loss through resolution and payment.
  • The Aviation Claims Specialist:  reviews new incidents/claims; gathers information; facilitates communications among clients, insurers, and counsel; supports claim reporting to insurers; oversees compliance with internal claim reporting procedures; maintains data on open/closed claims.
  • The role is also responsible for arranging claims reviews, market meetings, and other market-facing engagements; and liaising with Marsh’s London-based aviation claims team to ensure smooth handling of matters involving non-US insurers.

We will count on you to:

  • Protect our clients’ confidential information.  Set up and maintain confidential claims and advisory files; maintain strict confidentiality as to client matters; strictly manage insurer conflicts of interest for market reporting and claims review meetings.
  • Review complex claims (exception matters); assess coverage, offer technical guidance as needed throughout the claims handling process, from first notice of loss through settlement and collection; assist in strategy development, reserve analysis, market communications.
  • Maintain regular contact with claims personnel at key aviation insurers; use diplomacy and credibility to achieve the best outcomes for our clients.
  • Liaise with clients and third parties (e.g. claims adjusters, attorneys, experts) as necessary for claim-related issues or client service concerns; to resolve complex issues with insurers on claims notifications, counsel retention, information requests, queries and reporting, collections; keeping all relevant parties informed, as appropriate, of potential challenges, contentious claims, or noteworthy claims trends.
  • Organize in-person and virtual meetings; work alongside Aviation Claims Advocates to create and deliver webinars and other educational/training programs for colleagues and clients.

What you need to have:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of insurance experience; aviation experience preferred.
  • Claims and/or litigation experience highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree, paralegal, airframe & powerplant certificate preferred but not required.

All Marsh McLennan colleagues are expected to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $56,500 to $120,400.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
