The opportunity
As a Construction Superintendent, you will bring expertise and leadership to the field, overseeing a team of Field Engineers to ensure effective construction surveillance and on-site facilitation. You will play a crucial role in delivering Supervisor duties as outlined in our contract, ensuring that Hinkley Point C’s quality standards, targets, and expectations are met. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will be instrumental in driving compliance, maintaining high construction standards, and ensuring successful project delivery.
You will be a champion of Nuclear Safety Culture, embedding its principles into every aspect of the project’s processes and activities. Your leadership will ensure that safety, quality, and compliance remain at the forefront of construction operations. Managing a dynamic team, your scope will encompass all works related to the designated section of the project, overseeing contractors to ensure construction is executed to the highest standards. You will be responsible for supervising and conducting surveillance on contractor activities, including continuous, planned, and notified inspections, ensuring all work aligns with regulatory and project requirements.

What you’ll be doing
As a Construction Superintendent, you will lead a team of Field Engineers, ensuring they develop the necessary skills and competencies to effectively manage their areas of responsibility. Acting as a key liaison with the NEC Supervisor, you will identify and escalate contractual issues, ensuring that any necessary notices are addressed. You will actively participate in Tier 1 Contractor risk workshops, fostering the exchange of technical knowledge across the site to drive best practices. Your role will involve attending and contributing to project meetings with clients, contractors, and third parties, providing expert guidance on quality matters to the Project and Construction teams. By proactively identifying potential quality concerns before they arise, you will help implement mitigating actions, ensuring smooth project progression. Additional roles and responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain a clear understanding of the design obligations for both designers and contractors.
- Gain in-depth knowledge of the design document and drawing approval processes, ensuring all documents used for construction are formally approved.
- Ensure that design decisions are not made on-site, but are properly reviewed and approved through a formal process.
- Oversee the execution of works, ensuring strict compliance with approved risk assessments, method statements, design specifications, and safety protocols.
- Verify that each work package has a Quality Control Plan in place before commencement and ensure contractors adhere to these plans.
- Monitor and ensure that Quality Inspection Records are completed, reviewed, and agreed upon before work is covered up.
- Confirm that all construction drawings are fully approved and suitable for use, ensuring alignment with project specifications.
Who you are…
To excel as a Construction Superintendent, you will need a strong technical background in construction techniques and extensive experience in major projects. A deep understanding of contract management, particularly with NEC ECC and FIDIC contracts, is essential for ensuring compliance and effective project execution. Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills are key, as you will be responsible for coordinating teams, delegating tasks, and driving performance within a high-achieving environment. Your ability to maintain accurate and concise project diaries, aligned with contractual requirements, will be crucial in documenting progress and ensuring transparency across the project lifecycle. Thriving in a fast-paced, results-driven setting, you will contribute to a team that consistently delivers beyond expectations.
- Proven ability to motivate and energise teams, fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, and openness to diverse perspectives.
- Extensive experience in the installation and erection of large Civil Works, Mechanical, or Electrical plant, ensuring efficient and safe project execution.
- Strong background in delivering large-scale, complex projects, with a track record of meeting key milestones and objectives.
- Solid understanding of design obligations under CDM Regulations, along with experience navigating document and drawing approval processes.
- Excellent communication skills in English, with knowledge of French considered an advantage.
- Minimum HND qualification in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent vocational training and experience.
- Proficiency in using electronic handheld devices to efficiently capture and manage project information.
