OVERVIEW


The Refugee Youth Resource Center was established to improve outcomes for refugee children/youth and their families through providing education, resources, and support to refugee-serving agencies. The Community Outreach and Education Coordinator will conduct national outreach to develop relationships with key stakeholders who may encounter and who service refugee youth. The coordinator will develop relationships with service providers, educators, child welfare, law enforcement, and refugee task forces to advocate for and provide education about the needs of refugee youth. The position will require the facilitation and development of trainings and presentations, as well as the facilitation of a Refugee Youth Council to foster an inclusive and empowering environment for youth to share their insights and feedback. The position reports to the Senior Community Outreach and Education Coordinator. Individuals with lived experience are highly encouraged to apply.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Provide national, regional, and targeted local community outreach and education with community service providers to improve outcomes for refugee youth; 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations/subject matter experts for technical assistance and collaboration; 
  • Plan and develop educational resources to be shared with community stakeholders and service providers; 
  • Contribute to an online library of resources and tools to support learning goals and needs of service providers working with refugee youth;  
  • Make ongoing efforts to identify providers and resources to support the work of agencies serving refugee youth;
  • Execute an outreach plan for refugee youth focused community outreach and education efforts;
  • Conduct and analyze needs assessments with refugee resettlement staff, external refugee serving providers, and families to identify stakeholders and parties for community outreach/education;
  • Maintain data on development and outreach activities;
  • Co-design and facilitate a Refugee Youth Council, comprised of refugee youth with lived experience, to inform activities of the Refugee Youth Resource Center; 
  • Provide geographic support based on needs to train and educate local stakeholders; and
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science, education, or social services field with at least three years’ experience in child welfare, case management, and working with refugee children and youth;
  • Prior experience working in domestic refugee resettlement is required;
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Experience in developing and leading youth-focused programs or councils, particularly those involving individuals with lived experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with and providing training, guidance, and support to community-based organizations and other institutions; 
  • Proven experience in youth engagement, community development, or a related field;
  • Strong technology skills;
  • Strict adherence to timeframes, policy, and procedure;
  • Ability to prioritize duties and multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team;
  • Ability to track and analyze data;
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically proficiency with Word, Power Point, Publisher, and Excel is required;
  • Position is remote and the candidate must have an appropriate workspace to complete documentation, phone calls, and video conferencing;
  • Fluency in other languages highly preferred;
  • Willing to travel a few times annually;
  • Candidate must demonstrate a commitment to comply with mandatory state reporting requirements for child abuse and neglect;
  • Candidate must have dedication to the human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers and displaced people;
  • Demonstrated support of USCRI’s values by exhibiting respect for others, maintenance of confidential information and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.

 

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS 

 

  • Satisfactory completion of USCRI’s Orientation and Training;
  • Satisfactory completion of funder required trainings upon hire and on an annual basis; and
  • Complete additional training as identified by supervisor or Human Resources.

  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity;
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands;
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying; and
  • Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements).
