About the Role:

Planet is seeking a dynamic, self-starting communications professional to join the Communications team in our San Francisco offices. This person will be responsible for developing and amplifying our product communications – further establishing Planet as a global leader in Earth observation technology and data. They will also help support the communications team across our other verticals, including developing content for Planet’s owned channels and social media, working with our data visualization team on imagery requests, and leading on team admin. 

The successful candidate is hard-working, organized, energized to develop compelling stories rooted in data, eager to solidify and expand their skills as a communications professional, and a team player. They have experience and interest in product communications and content development (bonus points for science, tech, or aerospace), and have examples of projects or campaigns they’ve helped support and execute. As the media industry continues to evolve, they are energized by the opportunity to join a nimble, collaborative, and solutions-oriented team committed to demonstrating real results.

This role reports to the Senior Communications Manager in San Francisco. The position is hybrid, and is required to be in-office a minimum of two to three days a week. 

Impact You'll Own:

  • Work with the communications team to build and implement communications strategies to raise awareness for Planet’s products with key audiences, including top-tier media, customers, investors, employees, and more
  • Help shape and implement a social media strategy for Planet’s executive leadership and brand channels 
  • Develop written collateral including press releases, blogs, social copy, and op-eds
  • Lead on team administration, including managing Google Workplace, meeting notes, coverage reports, and clips
  • Support the Media Think Tank Program (MTTP) by creatively leveraging Planet imagery in external communications and identifying opportunities for visual storytelling across owned and earned media.

What You Bring:

  • 2+ years experience in tech communications and/or content development (agency or in-house experience) 
  • Excellent writer with keen attention to detail 
  • Clear and proven communication skills with colleagues across teams and time zones
  • Ability to grasp and translate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to be mission-driven and a team player
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to support multiple projects in a dynamic environment
  • Familiarity and dexterity with emerging media, including LinkedIn, BlueSky, Reddit, YouTube, and X
  • Ability to be self-motivated, think critically, and solve problems,
  • Bachelor's degree

What Makes You Stand Out: 

  • Experience with PR platforms (Critical Mention, Cision, Meltwater, etc.) 
  • Familiarity with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.)
  • Familiarity with GIS tools
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop

Compensation:

The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is listed below.  Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location.  The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only.  Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

San Francisco Salary Range$80,200—$100,200 USD
