Department Overview:

The Center for Demography and Ecology (CDE) and the Center for Demography of Health and Aging (CDHA) are multi-disciplinary cooperatives promoting demographic research and graduate training in the population sciences. CDE is funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and CDHA is funded by the National Institute on Aging. Together, they support research activities that span the full life course. CDHA and CDE enjoy a long-established collaboration with roughly half of affiliates having membership with both centers. The Social Science Research Services (SSRS) is the administrative home department of both Centers, and SSRS provides research administration services to all social science departments in the College of Letters and Science.

Social Science Research Services (SSRS) serves social science researchers in the College of Letters & Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The central function of SSRS is to provide specialized, high-quality services to advance interdisciplinary social science research at UW-Madison. SSRS provides primary support to researchers affiliated with the Center for Demography & Ecology (CDE) and the Center for Demography of Health & Aging (CDHA). SSRS service-providing units include Administrative Services and the Social Science Computing Cooperative (SSCC). This position would be housed within Administrative Services.

Qualifications:

- Proficiency (basic) with Canva & WordPress, or similar software
- Experience with short-form writing or willingness to learn
- Proficiency (basic) in navigating social media platforms (Twitter/X, BlueSky, & LinkedIn)
- Proficiency (basic) with Google Scholar & Microsoft Excel
- Experience with citing scholarly products including articles, working papers, & abstracts

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Attention to detail & nuance
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently
- Highly organized with the ability to build out tools to ensure accurate record-keeping
- Willingness to learn & innovate

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Primary duties of this position will include supporting with (1) the production of regular communication products across our websites, social media, and digital products, (2) the growth of our accounts across campus & our communications & social media platforms, and (3) the continued development and upkeep of our affiliate publications archive.

- Assist in creating digital and physical communications products amplifying the work of our supported centers & departments
- Assist with the growth of our accounts across social media platforms
- Support the tracking of the scholarly publications of SSRS-supported faculty across many departments & schools
- Assist with other office duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

Ability to work at a desk on a computer for several hours.
