Commodity Analyst

Role Overview
This person will join our rapidly growing crop marketing business as a thought leader who will enable all of our commercial business units (content production, advisory, merchandising) through research, insights, and recommendations. This person will be fundamental to establishing FBN as a content-generation leader in the Crop Marketing space. This is a unique opportunity to become a critical part of a high-value business line at one of the fastest growing companies in the Ag industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with our Risk Management Advisor and data science team to identify and execute on unique, quantitative analytical approaches in crop markets
- Develop farmer and industry-facing content on a regular basis, which could include daily highlights, weekly deep-dives, weekly podcast recordings, and periodic webinars
- Support in-field advisory program by communicating analysis and pricing recommendations to FBN’s farmer-facing advisors on a daily basis
- Relay research and insights on crops of ownership in public settings, including but not limited to FBN farmer seminars and media interviews
- Ad hoc support of team’s merchandising efforts, including relationship development with end-buyers on your crops of focus and identification of trading opportunities
- Help to continually refine FBN’s Crop Marketing philosophy and identifying new ways it can serve the marketing needs of its members
- Work closely with product team to develop the next generation of online tools to support marketing efforts for individual farm operations
Qualifications
Required characteristics/qualifications include:
- BS/BA required, but advanced degrees (MS/PhD) preferred
- Possess or able to obtain Series 3/30 licenses
- 5+ years working in a similar analyst role
- Experience conducting original research, writing about, and providing sales or purchasing recommendations in grain markets on the back of that research
- Expert grasp of grain futures and options markets.
- Knowledge of grain marketing regulations and guidelines
- Passionate about agriculture and farming; a desire to put the farmer first
- Highly independent, goal-oriented and creative
- Comfortable using technology products/services
- A willingness to work in a fast-paced start-up environment, this is not a 9-5 job
- Willingness to travel 10-15% of time
Preferred characteristics/qualifications include:
- Specialized knowledge of corn, soybeans, wheat markets
- Experience presenting publicly on grain markets and commodity sector
- Knowledge of basic quantitative analytics methods and application of those methods in the grain marketing space
- Experience in high-level programming environments such as R, Python, MatLab, SQL
- Application of latest machine learning toolsets to price prediction and its underlying supply and demand components.
