Commissioning Fire Engineer
Full-Time, On-Site role at Hinkley Point C.

The Opportunity
- The Fire Safety Engineer role offers an exciting opportunity to grow your expertise while being part of a dedicated team of safety and compliance professionals. Reporting to the Commissioning Fire Safety Coordinator, this position is perfect for someone with limited fire safety experience who’s eager to make an impact.
- You'll be instrumental in supporting fire safety initiatives within the Commissioning programme, fostering a positive fire safety culture, and helping coordinate efforts among various contractors across the project and its Associated Development Sites. This is your chance to contribute to a major project while developing your skills in fire safety.

What you will be doing
In this role, you’ll work closely with the Commissioning Fire Safety Coordinator and HPC Site Fire Safety Engineers, becoming a key player in ensuring fire safety across the project. You'll provide vital support to the Commissioning Fire Safety Coordinator in managing and monitoring fire safety on a day-to-day basis, seamlessly integrating the Commissioning Programme with the broader HPC fire safety arrangements. Your efforts will be crucial to maintaining high standards of fire safety throughout the site. Additional responsibilities for this role will include:
- Assist the Commissioning Fire Safety Coordinator in managing fire safety arrangements, including writing and owning Commissioning Fire Risk Assessments (FRA).
- Support the facilitation and administration of Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness Management Systems, along with Fire Safety Audits and Assurance.
- Play a key role in executing the Commissioning fire safety strategy for specific Commissioning areas.
- Ensure HPC project fire health and safety standards are consistently upheld while promoting the HPC Way and its core values in every task.
- Help communicate lessons learned, lead toolbox talks, and share fire safety moments across CommOps teams.
- Support regular site fire safety inspections and checks alongside the Commissioning Fire Safety Coordinator.
- Assist the Commissioning Fire Safety Coordinator with Fire Safety Assurance Audits, inspections, and monitoring activities to ensure compliance with site standards and UK legislation for all contractors.
- Be a proactive and practical team member within the CommOps health, safety, and environmental team.
Who you are
To be successful in this role, we’re looking for you to be actively working towards membership with the Institute of Fire Safety Engineers (IFE) or a similar professional organisation. Ideally, you’ll have at least one year of fire safety experience and qualifications from a recognised body such as the UK Fire Service College, FPA, IFE, or NEBOSH. A solid understanding of fire safety principles and practices is essential, along with competency in Microsoft applications and a willingness to learn new software tools. Additional requirements for this role include:
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong networks and working relationships within EDF and the construction industry.
- Eager to learn and continuously improve in the field of fire safety.
- Experience in fire safety, including writing Fire Risk Assessments within a project environment.
- Strong ability to anticipate future fire risks and their potential implications.
- Skilled at engaging others in technical discussions and fostering understanding.
- Capable of sharing knowledge, building skills in others, and addressing technical issues in a practical, pragmatic way.
- Experienced in developing and implementing fire safety risk assessments.
