The Coder Abstractor is responsible for the coding/abstracting of acute care services.  This may include inpatient, outpatient surgery and/or other outpatient services, and/or ED encounters (including charging related functions such as E/M levels & charges) in accordance with all regulatory requirements, official, authoritative coding sources (e.g., official coding guidelines), and all facility requirements.

The Coder Abstractor II is responsible for the coding/abstracting of acute care services, which may include inpatient, outpatient surgery and/or other outpatient services, and/or ED encounters (including charging-related functions such as E/M levels & charges) in accordance with all regulatory requirements, official, authoritative coding sources (e.g., official coding guidelines), and all facility requirements.

Coder:

Required Qualifications:

  • Upon hire: Certification from American Academy of Professional Coders 
  • Upon hire: Certification from American Health Information Management Association 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework/Training: Graduate of an AHIMA accredited Health Information Technology or Health Information Management program or self-study course and a passing score on the national certification examination for RHIA or RHIT
  • 1 year hospital based HIM Department background/experience or experience through practicum of an AHIMA accredited Health Information Technology or Health Information Management program
  • 1 year successful hospital based coding experience 

 

Senior Coder:

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree and/or higher degree in a healthcare related program
  • Upon hire: National Certification from American Academy of Professional Coders, or
  • Upon hire: National Certified Coding Associate - American Health Information Management Association, or
  • Upon hire: National Certified Coding Specialist - American Health Information Management Association, or
  • Upon hire: National Certified Coding Specialist - Physician - American Health Information Management Association, or
  • Upon hire: National Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner - American Health Information Management Association, or
  • Upon hire: National Certified Health Data Analyst - American Health Information Management Association, or
  • Upon hire: National Registered Health Information Administrator - American Health Information Management Association, or
  • Upon hire: National Registered Health Information Technician - American Health Information Management Association
  • 1 year acute hospital based coding experience – inpatient, ED, or ASU. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in a program related to Health Information Management or Health Information Technology 
  • Coursework/Training: Graduate of an AHIMA accredited Health Information Technology or Health Information Management program or self-study course 
  • Upon hire: A passing score on the national certification examination for RHIA or RHIT
  • Upon hire: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - American Health Information Management Association
  • Upon hire: CPC-H
  • 1 year hospital based HIM department background experience or experience through practicum of an AHIMA accredited Health Information Technology or Health Information Management program

 

Salary Range By Location:

Coder, Everett (Everett, WA) Min: $28.69 – 49.42

Senior Coder, Everett (Everett, WA) Min: $29.88 – 51.53

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
