Position Summary

Effectual Cloud Engineers (CEs) are members of the Commercial Professional Services team responsible for ensuring that customer-facing projects are delivered to customer satisfaction. Effectual CEs are "Brand Ambassadors" and are expected to stay current on leading practices to deliver high-quality, well-conceived solutions to customers.

A Glimpse into the Daily Routine of a Cloud Engineer

A Cloud Engineer joins our client's effort as part of the delivery team. CEs bring their expertise in AWS, from design to implementation. They collaborate alongside Cloud Network Engineers, Cloud Architects, and other team members, ensuring our client's needs are satisfied.

Responsibilities

Enabling customers' use of AWS to achieve their goals through:

  • Deploy containerized applications in AWS.
  • Operate and Optimize Containerized Workloads.
  • Knowledge and Experience in Kubernetes commands and platforms.
  • Recommend tools and capabilities based on research and knowledge of technical environment and goals.
  • Configure AWS cloud infrastructure for maximum technical and budgetary efficiency
  • Identify, update, and verify operational health of resized services to reduce cloud cost.
  • Collaborate with customers to ensure standards are met, adopted and implemented throughout the process.
  • Implement cloud infrastructure, using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), including:
  • Create Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) resources such as subnets, network access control lists, and security groups
  • Create IAM users and groups
  • Deploy, testing, and documenting development, pre-production, and production environments
  • Compose and use Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g.: AWS CloudFormation templates, Terraform, etc.) to ensure repeatable, sustainable AWS infrastructure
  • Create gold images / AMIs and configuring auto scaling
  • Configure multi-factor authentication on virtual and hardware devices

Support developers in working within AWS through:

  • Create Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Provide input and guidance to developers on overall AWS Architecture and design tenets
  • Demonstrate an "as-code" first mindset through the regular use and advocacy of Terraform or other "as-code" tools

Establish visibility into cloud operations through:

  • Use resource tagging to allocate costs and improve resource planning
  • Help prepare cost analysis based on expected usage
