The Clinical Coordinator for the Travel Nurse Program is responsible for assisting the clinical aspects of travel nurse assignments to ensure high-quality patient care, compliance with regulatory standards, and effective team support. Reporting to and assisting the Travel Nurse Program Manager, this role involves close collaboration with case managers, 24/7 clinical consultant, travel nurses, and other clinical staff across UEWH locations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Intake & Scheduling
    • Assist the Travel Program Manager with new incoming 24/7 patient set up.
    • Assign travel nurses based on patient needs, location, and other specific criteria.
    • Maintain and adjust schedules as necessary to ensure consistent 24/7 patient care coverage.
    • Respond to urgent staffing changes, such as last-minute requests or coverage for sick calls.
    • Report on scheduling challenges and patient coverage status to the Travel Nurse Program Manager.
  • Training & Clinical Support
    • Collaborate with the Education department to develop and coordinate a comprehensive orientation schedule for new travel nurses. This includes training on UEWH-specific protocols, documentation requirements, and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) usage
    • Work with Education to conduct clinical competency assessments that verify nurses’ proficiency in essential clinical tasks, ensuring they are well-prepared for patient care.
    • Coordinate to facilitate ongoing clinical training sessions. Emphasize documentation accuracy and compliance with DOL standards for continuous 24/7 care, with Education providing additional resources as needed.
    • Complete skills competency oversight forms to ensure proficiency in required clinical tasks.
    • Partner with Education to ensure travel nurses have access to ongoing resources, such as Relias and Lippincott, supporting continuous skill development and best practices.
    • Track and report training progress, identifying any skill gaps or areas needing improvement. Share this information with both the Program Manager and Education for appropriate follow-up and support.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance Monitoring
    • Provide feedback to travel nurses on documentation quality and compliance with UEWH protocols.
    • Coordinate with 24/7 Clinical Consultant on compliance and quality metrics
    • Participate in UEWH quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
    • Compile audit results and compliance findings to assist the Program Manager in program assessments.
  • Travel Nurse Support
    • Serve as a clinical contact for travel nurses, providing support and addressing any clinical or logistical issues during their assignments.
    • Foster a supportive environment for travel nurses, helping to address challenges and maintain job satisfaction.
    • Relay performance updates and any retention concerns to the Program Manager.
  • Patient Care Team Collaboration
    • Participate in care conferences as needed to resolve clinical issues and optimize patient care plans.
    • Communicate relevant patient care updates and collaboration outcomes to the Program Manager.
  • Reporting and Managerial Assistance
    • Regularly report to the Travel Nurse Program Manager on scheduling, compliance, and clinical support activities.
    • Assist the Program Manager with program improvement initiatives, contributing insights and data to support decision-making.
    • Act as a liaison between the travel nurses and the Program Manager, ensuring clear communication and effective support.

Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse (RN), BSN preferred, or other clinical licensure with experience in patient care coordination.
  • Previous Home health or Hospice requirement.
  • Strong understanding of compliance and documentation standards for 24/7 patient care.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and travel nurse support.
  • Proficiency in reporting and data management to support program oversight.
