Clin Research and Facility Billing Coordinator- Practice Operations- Remote Opportunity

This position conducts such activities as coding, charge entry, payment posting, account follow-up, collections on clinical trial/research accounts and Facility accounts as appropriate. In addition, completing financial assessments for these patients; following established financial hardship guidelines to secure maximum reimbursements through identification and collection of patient liabilities. Performing functions such as reviewing documentation and selecting the appropriate procedure and / or diagnosis code to be entered in billing documents. Works closely with Center for Clinical Trials regarding upcoming research studies and closely with physicians and study coordinators for patient visit statuses. Will be an advocate for the patients that identify as needing to make financial arrangements to meet financial obligations resulting from care provided by University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc. (FPI); and other duties as assigned. Requires independent judgment and decision-making ability.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Certified Professional Coder certification required
- Level and years of experience based on departmental needs
- Extensive knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
- Knowledge of government regulations as they relate to teaching physician documentation and billing guideline
- Understanding of: FSC's and paycodes used in GE/IDX, EPIC or billing system, contractual requirements for the job; importance of compliance with all government regulations regarding billing and provider requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Three or more years of experience in a medical billing office
- General understanding and application of basic accounting principles
- PC proficiency
- Knowledge of GE/IDX, EPIC or similar computerized billing system
- Knowledge of payers in specialty
