We have excellent opportunity for a Chief Fiduciary Officer who will be responsible for implementing the company’s strategic plans and ensuring all company activities are done in compliance with laws and regulations, sound risk management, and best-in-class account administration. This individual serves as the primary legal resource to the trust company for comprehensive fiduciary and technical advice and is responsible for refining, designing, and implementing policies and governance structures. 

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary range for this position is $195,000.00 to $215,000.00 exclusive of bonuses and benefits. Primary Job Functions

Legal Oversight

  • Ensure the trust company operates in compliance with all fiduciary laws, regulations, and best practices

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to mitigate legal and operational risks

  • Establish and maintain alignment between the trust company’s strategic goals and its policies, governance structures, and procedures, while ensuring fiduciary compliance

  • Oversee account administration to ensure proper execution of fiduciary duties, including discretionary decision-making and reporting

  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulators, auditors, and outside legal counsel

Legal Guidance

  • Provide legal guidance to administrative staff on complex document interpretation issues and questions of fiduciary duties

  • Review legal documents for the trust company, including trust documents, court filings, agreements impacting account administration, and vendor contracts

  • Draft legal documents as needed

  • Review new business prior to acceptance to ensure completion of necessary due diligence and compliance with policies

Operations and Risk Management

  • Oversee trust operations, ensuring efficient processes, adherence to fiduciary standards, and alignment with strategic goals

  • Implement all company policies and governance structures

  • Establish best practices for the operation of committees

  • Establish and oversee the staff training program for new employees and continuing employees

  • Coordinate risk management and compliance efforts with the Compliance Officer

Strategic Growth and Acquisitions

  • Conduct due diligence on potential acquisitions, assessing legal, operational, and financial risks

  • Integrate newly acquired accounts and employees into the company’s operational and compliance framework

  • Provide insight into strategic opportunities related to South Dakota’s unique trust laws and regulatory environment

  • Oversee interstate trust activity to ensure legal compliance with South Dakota and host state requirements

Client and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as senior fiduciary expert for affiliates and high-net-worth clients

  • Partner with advisors, attorneys, and accountants to design and deliver fiduciary solutions that align with client goals

  • Represent the trust company in industry forums, prospect and client presentations, and professional organizations

  • Keep current on relevant fiduciary and tax laws, planning strategies, and trust structures

  • Prepare and deliver internal and external educational pieces and presentations

  • Collaborate in the creation of marketing materials

  • Develop professional contacts to monitor changes in the trust industry, identify emerging risks, and evaluate market opportunities

Education/Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree is required

  • 10+ years of legal experience in the trust industry, including at least 5 years of fiduciary management at a financial institution or law firm

  • Deep understanding of trust law and fiduciary regulations

  • Strong analytical, legal, and operational skills with the ability to navigate complex fiduciary matters

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and self-start projects

  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities and organize work effectively

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated experience in creating, building, and leading teams

WEG hires employees and makes decisions about their salary qualifications based on factors such as: the role to be performed; educational and professional experience, qualifications, skills and credentials; tenure, cost-of-living and demand for the role in the applicable market. Thus, the entire salary range for those who are classified as the Manager level is $164,300.00 to 246,500.00.
