Job Description

We are seeking a senior level civil/structural engineer to lead our Florida-focused Property Condition Assessment (PCA) engineering team, with a focus on Structural Condition Assessments (SCA) and particularly as applied to Florida state, county, and city legislative requirements for recertifications of existing buildings. The successful candidate will be capable of managing and leading projects throughout entire lifecycle, managing engineering staff as needed, and conducting all client-facing aspects of projects.

This position can be based anywhere but travel to J.S. Held offices in Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, or Miami would be required.  In any case, the position will require routine local and regional travel to project sites and/or client presentations. Active involvement in professional associations and societies is encouraged and supported.

  • Prepare budgets and proposals for projects, and present to clients as needed.
  • Manage the execution of assessment projects, including planning, site inspection activities, post-inspection analysis, and report/deliverable generation.
  • Manage the execution of repair/remediation specification projects, when needed to remedy deficiencies discovered during assessments.
  • Ability to self-perform project work and/or utilize and oversee engineering staff as needed.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) for projects.
  • Manage dedicated staff for PCA work as needed, including hiring of junior staff if needed.
  • Coordinate with other J.S. Held divisions working on other aspects of projects, such as cost estimation and construction management.
  • Engage in client-relations marketing.
  • Meet with and present to peers and clients as needed.
  • Interface with building departments during projects as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of PCA, SCA, and structural recertification standards, including legislative requirements and pending changes.
  • Manage successful financial outcome of projects and satisfaction of clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (from an ABET accredited school required).
  • PE license in Florida (required).
  • PE licenses in other states, or the ability to obtain licenses in other states.
  • SE designation in Florida and/or other states (beneficial but not required).
  • Special Inspector certification in Florida (beneficial but not required).
  • Fifteen (15) or more years of experience in the fields of structural engineering design and/or construction management, with at least five (5) years directly related to structural condition assessments and repair/remediation specification for existing buildings.
  • Experience managing engineering staff beneficial but not required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A desire to learn, excel and grow with us and within the profession.

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $160,000 - $220,000.  Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
