SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES

It is the responsibility of the Business Controls Analyst to take ownership of all tasks and challenges that they encounter in the operation of their assigned position.  The analyst in this role will work with multiple areas within the lines of business, Risk Management, and Internal Audit to conduct independent assessments through the use of an established risk management identification, assessment, and monitoring process.  This role will also partner internally with other Risk Management team members to implement an end-to-end view of the businesses control environment and establish monitoring for the key risk and controls within the organization

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This role will be responsible for the execution of risk control assessments enterprise-wide as well as centralized risk-based Monitoring Program to promote compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and the overall risk and control environment. This will require independent thought, critical thinking, credible challenge, and influence across various lines of business.

Control Design and Documentation

  • Conduct process walk throughs with business units as necessary.
  • Document process flows if needed.
  • Review, Identify and document risks and related controls across each business unit / risk area.

Monitoring:

  • Understand the identified risks, controls and all applicable banking laws and regulations.
  • Develop monitoring routines by defining scope and data availability. 
  • Execute monitoring routines based on total populations and statically valid sampling methodology to determine adherence to regulatory requirements as well as adherence to policies and procedures.

Reporting

  • Analyze monitoring findings to determine compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Assess of the design and effectiveness of controls designed to address identified risks.
  • Prepare official reports to escalate control issues, violations of law, or breaches of policy.
  • Communicate findings and issues with impacted business units.

Other

  • Assist department leadership with special projects as needed.
  • Assist with audit and exam preparation.
  • Validate issues as a results of monitoring execution findings.

Qualifications, Education, and Certification Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience (risk management).

Experience: 3 - 5  years of work experience in risk management or related function preferred.

Certifications/Specific Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of banking and lending processes and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Clear understanding of risks and internal controls and the ability to evaluate and determine the adequacy and effectiveness of controls.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, with a sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  • Able to manage risk and understands the impact of decisions made.
  • Demonstrated skill in communicating (both verbal and written) to a diverse audience
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with mid to senior level management, other internal clients, peers, and audit.
  • Critical thinking with analytical and independent thought process to assess abstract circumstances and manage ambiguity.
  • Autonomous, self-motivated, and flexible with the ability to adapt quickly to change and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive attitude with a self-starter mentality
  • Act in a professional manner in interpersonal relationships, and both verbal and written communication.
  • Strong organizational skills or project management experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/CLASSES

Required annual compliance training, New Employee Orientation

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, reports, and cash denominations, and identify customers. This position requires a large amount of time in front of a computer.  This can be done sitting or standing with use of the right desk. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Telecommuting roles no matter if hybrid or 100% full time telecommuting must have a secure home office environment that is free from background noise and distractions. They must also have a reliable private internet connection that is not supplied by use of cellular data (hot spot). Cable or fiber connections are preferred.  Requirements are subject to change, as new systems and technology is delivered.

TRAVEL

Travel may be required to come to meetings as needed.

Job Details:

In accordance with Colorado law: Colorado pay for this position is anticipated to be between $46,000 to $65,000, actual offers to be determined based on applicant’s skills, experience and education.
