Introduction
The Parliamentary Security Department (PSD) is responsible for physical and personnel security across both Houses of Parliament and provides support to Members and staff when away from the Estate. Its purpose is to keep Parliament safe and open for business.
PSD sets security strategy provides expert advice and delivers an operational service. It does this in partnership with the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and by working closely with the Parliamentary Estates Teams, Serjeant at Arms and Black Rod’s office, Restoration & Renewal teams, the Parliamentary Digital Service, and other key stakeholders.
The Role
The PSD Team Services function leads on the delivery of corporate and cross-departmental support services for the Parliamentary Security Department. Working as part of the Planning and Performance function in Team Services, this role has primary responsibility for ensuring providing assurance that we have appropriate business resilience to deal with disruption and that health and safety is embedded in our culture.
The Business Continuity Manager is critical role within the team for a highly motivated individual with strong communication skills and a passion for business continuity and health and safety to ensure plans are in place to support our teams to adapt, recover and learn from operational disruption, and provide advice and guidance to improve our resilience planning and health and safety functions.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- Work with the Business Planning and Performance Manager, PSD continuity leads and central Business Resilience team to regularly review and update PSD business continuity (BC) plans, processes and documentation to ensure plans remain effective and meet corporate requirementZ.
- Provide specialist support and advice to the Business Planning and Performance Manager and teams to facilitate robust monitoring of business continuity plans and ensure teams fully understand their critical activities and support in the identification of key gaps in plans
- Develop, implement and facilitate a programme for testing PSD BC plans, including communications call cascade, and plan and facilitate test exercises for PSD teams ensuring lessons learned are incorporated into plans
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Currently hold or willing to work towards, a qualification and/or professional membership in a business continuity, emergency planning or incident management discipline e.g. certified membership of the Business Continuity Institute (MBCI)
- Experience of working with diverse groups of people, upholding the principles of diversity, equality and inclusion, ensuring that everyone is, at all times, treated with dignity, courtesy and respect.
- Experience of developing and implementing effective business continuity plans Experience and competence in drafting and delivering relevant exercises and training.
