Biogas Technician

Job Summary: 

Biogas Field Service Technicians are responsible for performing activities associated with the safe and efficient operations of electrical and mechanical systems at their assigned site(s). Responsibilities will include performing a variety of skilled operational and maintenance tasks throughout the day which includes interfacing with the SCADA systems, running analytical tests, and performing the inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation, and removal/replacement of various types of electrical and mechanical systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain biogas plants, including anaerobic dairy manure digesters, gas upgrading equipment, and ancillary equipment such as compressors, pumps, motors, valves, and instrumentation.
  • Perform planned routine maintenance and unplanned repairs on above equipment.
  • Documentation of work completed in logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
  • Conduct instrument calibration as scheduled/required.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose plant operation and equipment problems.
  • Collect and analyze data to analyze digester health such as pH, TSS and biogas quality.
  • Maintain a clean and presentable plant environment, take pride in your site.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and procedures.
  • Other tasks in support of IGS RNG operations as required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.).

Work Schedule

This position offers a regular scheduled Monday to Friday work week, with an 8-hour day shift. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. "On call" status is required. Travel to various sites in western Ohio and Indiana. The ideal candidate for this position will reside within a 30 min drive to La Fontaine, IN.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree in a related field, such as mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, or agricultural engineering, or related experience. In lieu of an associate’s degree, 5+ years of experience in electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance on compressors, pumps, motors, valves, and instrumentation.
  • 2+ years of experience in biogas plant operation and maintenance or wastewater facility operation and maintenance preferred.
  • PLC programming experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of biogas production and conversion processes or willingness to learn.
  • Excellent mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with experience working with 24-480 V systems.
