Position Summary:

Reporting to the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program Director, the BSW Practicum Director is responsible for practicum site follow up by orienting, contracting, and checking in with BSW Program Site Supervisor. The BSW Practicum Director advises students on the types of practicum placements available. The Practicum Director engages with community organizations in securing future practicum sites. The Practicum Director creates and edits the comprehensive practicum manual in accordance with Council on Social Work (CSWE) standards. The Director also teaches one course per semester which can include the practicum placement course/s.

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Bachelor of Social Work Program Director, the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Practicum Director is responsible for effective performance in these essential duties:

  • Provides support in positioning the program for CSWE accreditation in collaboration with the Program Director, faculty, and college staff to include developing the documents required to gain and maintain accreditation; and assist with the accreditation site visits.
  • Collaborates with the Program Director and practicum agencies.
  • Trains and orients students and agencies on practicum requirements.
  • Manages data related to practicum evaluation, hours, program assessment.
  • Develops and enhances the practicum manual as needed.
  • Teaches one practicum course each term including summers.
  • Advises students.
  • Provides outreach to the social work community, including establishing practicum sites for the students in collaboration of the BSW Program Director.
  • Assists in the development of program expansion opportunities.
  • Assists in attaining and maintaining CSWE accreditation at state and professional association levels, as applicable.
  • Assesses student learning outcomes with practicum placement courses.
  • Works with appropriate personnel to mediate student and faculty concerns and resolve conflicts with practicum placements.
  • Assists the Program Director with recommending annual budgets by researching, reviewing, and analyzing historic information and projecting future needs; controls and authorizes expenditures within the limitations of approved budgets.
  • Participates in at least one professional development activity each year.
  • Stays current on changes in the social work practicum that impact the program.

In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings.  These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited institution is required, with one (1) to three (3) years’ practicum placement teaching experience and one to three years higher education program experience at a CSWE accredited institution. 

Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following: 

  • Experience with CSWE accreditation.
  • Experience developing practicum placement standards.
  • Ability to motivate and manage practicum sites at a distance.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with an ability to meet deadlines and manage high volumes of work.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage fast-paced workflows and team collaboration in virtual online environments.
  • Experience developing field placement standards for online programs.
  • Experience maintaining accurate electronic records using electronic Field Management Systems.
  • Statistical knowledge to analyze data for outcomes assessment and program review; experience with data management systems.

Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience administrating a BSW or MSW practicum placement program in an online format.
  • Experience building curriculum with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and/or inclusive design principles
  • Doctor of Social Work (DSW) Degree

Starting Salary:

Minimum Salary; $74,546 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits. The salary will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications such as education and job-related experience, and internal equity.
