The Arizona Department of Gaming seeks a skilled and meticulous Auditor to join our team. This position plays a vital role in upholding the integrity of gaming operations across Tribal Gaming facilities. As an Auditor, you will ensure that Tribal Gaming Operations comply with the Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact, federal gaming regulations, and other applicable laws. This role requires conducting detailed audits, collaborating with Tribal Gaming Offices, and preparing comprehensive reports to maintain transparency and accountability.

Your Impact:

  • Audit Oversight: Perform audits of Tribal Gaming Operations to assess compliance with the Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact and National Indian Gaming Commission’s standards.
  • Data Analysis: Compile and review financial records, including tribal contributions, to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with Tribal Gaming Offices and Gaming Facility Operators to identify and resolve non-compliance issues.
  • Specialized Audits: Conduct and review work papers for special reviews, including fraud audits and financial investigations.
  • Independent Work: Manage assignments with autonomy, applying analytical skills to gather facts, organize information, and make logical interpretations.

What You’ll Need:

  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact, auditing principles, and gaming industry standards.
  • Skills: Strong time management, effective communication (written and verbal), and the ability to work independently on complex assignments.
  • Education & Experience: A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field, with at least two years of accounting/auditing experience. Professional certifications like CPA, CIA, CMA, or CFE are highly desirable.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

As a Gaming Auditor you will:

  • Be responsible for the auditing of Tribal Gaming Operations to ensure compliance with the Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact, Appendices, National Indian Gaming Commission’s Minimum Internal Control Standards, Tribal Gaming Ordinances, and/or other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Compile and review financial information, including tribal contributions, for all Tribal Gaming Operations.
  • Conduct and review audit work papers conducted by external auditors.
  • Be responsible for reviewing the Tribal Gaming Operations internal control systems to ensure compliance with the Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact, Appendices, National Indian Gaming Commission’s Minimum Internal Control Standards, Tribal Gaming Ordinances, and/or other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Work closely with Tribal Gaming Offices and Gaming Facility Operators to collaboratively find solutions to resolve any non-compliant issues.
  • Be capable of working independently on difficult assignments, gathering facts, organizing, analyzing and comprehending information to make logical interpretations necessary to perform operational duties.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact and appendices, state laws, and regulations.
  • Gaming industry procedures and regulations.
  • Principles and practices of auditing and accounting
  • Auditing techniques in evaluating internal control systems.
  • Techniques in reviewing and analyzing financial data.
  • Computerized products used in accounting systems and processes.
  • Casino operations and technology.

Selective Preference(s):
  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Two (2) years accounting/auditing experience and/or reviewing and analyzing financial statements.
  • Professional certification (e.g. CPA, CIA, CMA, and CFE) and/or gaming experience is highly desirable.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)

Retirement:

To help you build a financially secure future, the State makes monthly contributions to finance your retirement benefit. The State will contribute to the ASRS in an amount equal to your contribution. In other words, you and the State will each pay 50% of the total cost of the benefit. New State employees have a 27-week wait period for contributions to begin.
