Description

In this position, you will help to maintain Sargent & Lundy’s existing training catalog by coordinating audits to validate course accuracy and revising course materials where appropriate. Materials could include Articulate Rise or Storyline courses, PowerPoint presentations, job aids, etc. You may also assist with developing supporting materials (job aids, handouts, etc.) for new training solutions. This position is focused on short-term/quick-turnaround assignments. 

The Associate Instructional Designer position reports to the Director of Learning & Organizational Change and works under the supervision of the Instructional Design Manager. The Training & Development group is positioned within Operations. 

Typical Activities Include: 

  • Coordinating periodic audits with course owners and subject matter experts. 
  • Working with course stakeholders to define a clear scope of revisions. 
  • Implementing feedback from course stakeholders in a way that aligns with instructional design principles, team standards, and the course's existing tone and visual style.  
  • Developing computer-generated audio using Descript software. 
  • Developing materials to support instructor-led training courses, such as PowerPoint presentations and worksheets/handouts.   
  • Developing job aids to help users navigate software and perform specific software tasks. 
  • Collaborating with the Instructional Design team, including participating in team brainstorming and professional development activities, requesting and incorporating feedback on work-in-progress deliverables, providing feedback to teammates, etc.    
  • Proofreading and functionality testing deliverables created by teammates. 
  • Communicating project status to relevant stakeholders consistently throughout the project.    

 

While this is a remote position, occasional travel to the Chicago office is required. The Instructional Design team has at least one in-office day per quarter. You may also be asked to come in to attend specific meetings, as appropriate.   

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • 2-4 years of professional experience as a Content Developer, Technical Writer/Editor, Instructional Designer, or similar position. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or relevant field. 
  • Strong written communication skills.  
  • Strong attention to detail. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. 
  • Ability to work with templates and adhere to style guidelines. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.  

Valued But Not Required Skills and Experience 

  • Proficiency in e-learning development software (Articulate 360 Rise and Storyline). 
  • Proficiency in graphic design and/or video editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud). 
  • Proficiency in Descript. 
  • Experience working with highly technical, complex content.  
  • Experience in the energy industry or another engineering domain.
