Associate Director, National Center for Teaching and Learning

Job Description:
The Associate Director of The Chicago School’s National Center for Teaching and Learning supports the Center in multiple capacities, primarily through, but not limited to, the strategic oversight of national teaching and learning initiatives for students’ academic skill development; strategic oversight of skill and leadership development for faculty and staff; and contributing to the strategic vision of The National Center for Teaching and Learning. The Associate Director serves as the Coordinator of the Office of Student Writing and Learning, and supports the Office in multiple capacities, including, but not limited to, the initiatives for academic and writing skill development, writing across the curriculum and writing in the disciplines programs; and the development and delivery of new programs that support student academic success.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Provides strategic marketing and communication direction across OSWL and NCTL internal and external platforms, including, but not limited to
NCTL Sharepoint, OSWL Sharepoint, OSWL website, university community and intranet sites and their related accounts, and other third-party technology platforms, including, but not limited to GoToStage, Squarespace, Screenpal, Prezi, YouTube, Canvas course shells/pages, Articulate360, Interact, AnnotatePro, Grammarly, WCOnline
Collaborates with institutional stakeholders to provide strategic direction on university, college, degree, and program-level academic skill services and resource needs, including contributing to the cross-Institutional Collaboration Committee
Oversees the Teaching Academic Writing Through Course Curriculum Microcredential and The Chicago School’s Academic Support Hub
Supports the development and expansion of NCTL to respond to evolving needs of growing and diversifying faculty, staff, and student populations.
Coordinates the Office of Student Writing and Learning, overseeing national services and resources for student-facing academic skill and writing support.
Collaborate with institutional stakeholders to determine college, degree, and program-level writing services and resource needs
Develop and implement effective programming to address student writing needs, including 1:1 and group tutoring, webinars, workshops, and other supplemental instruction
Hire, train, and supervise writing specialists, as needed
Collaborate with the Writing Specialist Lead to hire, train, and supervise peer tutors, as needed
Oversee scheduling, data collection, and communication records for all OSWL services
Provide regular outcome data on the effectiveness of services
Collaborate with Educational Effectiveness/National Program Development office to develop co-curricular program evaluation KPIs
Collaborate with faculty to identify and support student writing needs in course assignments, thesis papers, and dissertation work
Coordinate dissertation support services
Coordinate multilingual and international student academic support services
Maintain the OSWL website, related accounts, and other third-party technology platforms
Promote writing services across colleges and degree programs through semester newsletters, Microsoft Teams, and other communication channels
Coordinate skill-based workshops and seminars
Maintain and communicate records of student progress, including challenges and successes
Maintain strict confidentiality around student names, work materials and results
Support department-initiated ADP plans for students
Design, develop, and deliver training and professional development materials for OSWL staff
Collaborate with faculty to identify and support student writing needs in course assignments, thesis papers, and dissertation work, leveraging WAC and WID frameworks
Collaborate with academic departments to design, develop, and deliver customized support services and resources
Chairs The Chicago School’s Artificial Intelligence Content Standards Committee
Collaborate with National Faculty Council, university leadership, and college deans to establish committee membership
Coordinate ongoing oversight and maintenance of institutional AI policies and teaching and learning training and support materials
Coordinate working groups to execute committee recommendations
Collaborate with National Faculty Council and subcommittees as well as college deans to align content standards with academic program review and scholarship initiatives
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Demonstrates excellent writing and editing skills (grammar, punctuation, and spelling).
Delivers presentations online or in person as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Behaves in a collegial and professional manner with all members of The Chicago School community and adheres to the highest professional conduct and ethical standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
A master's degree in English, writing, rhetoric, writing center studies, or similar, and/or psychology or psychology-related area (PhD preferred)
Minimum of 5 years of curricular or co-curricular instructional experience in a higher education setting
Experience working on and leading virtual teams
Experience working in a teaching and learning center
Strong familiarity with APA writing style and formatting
Demonstrated excellence in teaching college-level academic and/or professional writing skills to a culturally diverse student population
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Compensation & Benefits
This opportunity is budgeted at $$70,000 to $77,000 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
