About This Role
The Associate Director, Medical Excellence (ME) Lead is responsible, at the direction of the Director of Medical Operations & Excellence (North America Medical, NAM), to facilitate the highest level of performance attainable for the NAM Medical Teams by strategically aligning medical efforts to medical value and execution. The ME Lead will identify areas of opportunity for improvement and barriers that affect NAM ability to perform at a high level. This individual will plan, design, and implement innovative solutions that distinguish Biogen’s Medical Teams from others in the industry. They will be primarily responsible for leading and driving key, cross-functional project teams focused on system and process improvements. This role will be accountable for ensuring high quality, productive system and process optimization efforts and will have responsibility for system / process optimization budgets and external support where warranted.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure Field Medical systems meet business needs and compliance standards. Work with training team on training and communication of system changes. Align and advance US Medical thinking to support Field systems evolution to meet developing & emerging needs of Medical team function.
- Partner with Training to lead the design and execution of training and development initiatives that can be applied to Field Medical and Field Medical Managers related to external engagement. Enable mechanism to support the mentorship of new employees throughout their onboarding period (up to 1 year).
- Partner with Field, Field Directors, and Medical Director Office leadership to oversee Onboarding, Field Readiness Assessment processes, Medical Forums and more.
- Work with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to develop and maintain a change management approach(s) and plan, implement, and drive the philosophy, objectives and communications for a successful long-term roll out of system / process optimization changes.
- Lead and oversee the strategy, design, and in some cases system ownership of critical medical operation systems, covering a broad spectrum of activities such as medical education programs, accessible communications, external engagement support, material review, and others.
- Lead cross functional working groups to improve business systems / processes by:
- Studying current practices and proposing modifications
- Taking an end-to-end perspective with a focus on improved service, operational excellence, and increased customer satisfaction.

Qualifications
Required Skills
- Advanced degree in scientific discipline (e.g., PhD, PharmD, MD, NPs, PAs)
- MBA and/or Lean Six Sigma certification preferred
- 4+ years Field Medical experience as a MSL / MVL with demonstrated leadership experience, including success in mentoring and coaching peers, and 7+ years relevant industry experience
- Expertise and understanding of the variety of roles within Medical Affairs and their supporting processes
- Experience leading and influencing project teams through past successful implementation
- Experience with tracking process performance, monitoring processes using dashboards and technologies preferred
- Experience with documentation standards and good documentation principles/best practices
- Strong project management skills, including projects delivered across a matrix. Able to manage multiple complex projects across multiple departments and stakeholders. Ability to oversee creation of strategic, long-range plans and implement them successfully.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with multiple stakeholders across the organization
Preferred Skills
- Change management experience highly desired
- Medical operations experience with a focus on strategic or tactical framework
- Prior experience managing Field Medical functions and/or Medical training
Additional Information
The base compensation range for this role is $141,000 - $234,000. Base salary is determined by a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job related years of relevant experience, internal equity, and location of the job. Additionally, this role is eligible for participation in Biogen’s LTI grants and other incentive programs.
