The Department of Medicine is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Associate Director to oversee program development, operations, and financial management in alignment with the department’s mission and goals. This role requires a dynamic leader who can drive initiatives forward in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
Reporting to the Director, the Associate Director will lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of programs and projects, ensuring timely completion within budget. Responsibilities include strategic planning, financial oversight, grant writing, marketing, and communications, as well as serving as a key liaison with university leadership, external partners, and donors. The role also involves supervising staff, overseeing hiring and performance management, and ensuring compliance with UCLA, state, and federal regulations.
In addition, the Associate Director will manage departmental operations, support faculty with research and administrative initiatives, and play a critical role in identifying funding opportunities. This position requires exceptional organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills to drive efficiency and innovation.
Annual range: $102,500-$227,700

Required:- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimal 5-7 years of relevant experience
- Ability to work independently with interpersonal skills to work with teams, provide training,
- Minimal 1+ years of experience staff supervising laboratory personnel and operations.
- Exceptional writing skills to produce wide range of documents and deliverables.
- Experience communicating effectively and professionally and working with a variety of internal and external partners, including UCLA administrators, outside funders, policy makers and community representatives.
- Strong organizational skills to successfully work on and track complex programs involving short deadlines and multiple tasks, in coordination with multiple teams to achieve program/project mission and goals.
- Working knowledge of program/project development, evaluation, creating datasets, financial management and reporting, research principles including CITI training, grant writing and proposal submission, University procedures and policies, program/project related federal and state regulations.
- Ability to seek out and learn new policies, procedures, and software to advance the mission of the program/project.
- Ability to train new program/project managers and other staff within and external to the unit.
- Experience with Global Health programs/studies, including but not limited to the Lancet Commission on Cancer & Health Systems, Lancet Commission on Gender-Based Violence & Research Hub on Global Access to Palliative Care & Pain Relief.
- Advanced ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree.
