The Associate DevOps Engineer – GitLab Services will support clients through GitLab’s official Service Partner program, focusing on the implementation, optimization, and support of GitLab’s DevOps platform. This role is ideal for early-career professionals with a foundational understanding of CI/CD practices and a desire to work directly with clients in a service-oriented environment. Responsibilities include configuring and troubleshooting GitLab pipelines, assisting with the migration of CI/CD processes from other platforms, and supporting secure development workflows such as code scanning, compliance checks, and audit trails.
This is a junior-level (LCAT 1) position requiring strong communication skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to quickly learn and adapt. Candidates should be comfortable discussing basic developer concepts, even if they are not tied to a specific programming language. While GitLab certifications are not required, candidates should be prepared to complete a structured ramp-up period and pass a GitLab interview within two weeks of onboarding. This position offers a strong growth path for those interested in DevSecOps, customer success, and hands-on platform support within a high-impact services team.
Responsibilities:
- Daily support of GitLab platform including engineering and operations tasks and integrations.
- Monitor all GitLab Security Release Notifications.
- Implement CI / CD best practices across small and large development teams.
- Coordinate with security engineer for validate of all planned changes to the GitLab instance.
- Support DevOps practices for teams leveraging GitLab and integrations with other tools (i.e. Jira).
- Manage Users, Groups, and Projects.
- Plan and perform GitLab upgrades and patching on a scheduled monthly basis.
- Work with the product vendor for enhancement and issue resolution.
- Work with customer executives, cloud architects, and cloud engineers to define deliverables and discuss issues, questions, and improvements for the GitLab instance.
- Conduct user-training and help sessions for new features or implementations.
- Build, deploy and manage Docker containers in a secure environment. Utilize Kubernetes for orchestration.
- Act as a point of contact for onboarding new users and teams and answering frequently asked questions.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
- Working hours are 8 hours a day with a 30 min non-paid lunch break. However, as we are IT it's expected that night/weekend work will be required for Production Deployments and ADHOC items as they arise. Valiantys Federal will do its best to ensure all after hours tasks are scheduled, with the understanding that this cannot be guaranteed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in business, information technology, computer science, engineering, or related technical or functional discipline or equivalent demonstrable experience is required.
- A minimum of 1 year experience in architecting and deploying GitLab on AWS, Azure, or GCP is required.
- Knowledge of the Atlassian Tool Suite (Jira Software, Confluence) and integration points with GitLab is required.
- GitLab certifications or equivalent demonstrable experience is preferred.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and container hardening practices is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, organization, and process implementation skills.
The responsibilities of this position require that you have access to sensitive information about Valiantys Federal and Customer systems and information, including Federal proprietary information, protected health information, personally identifiable information, and security relevant information. You will be required to safeguard any information you are exposed to and comply with any special handling requirements and reporting procedures.
The salary range is between $60,000 - $80,000 (Salary to be determined by candidate’s education, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data).
