Position Summary:

The NBA Legal Department provides advice and counsel with respect to the league’s activities and businesses on a global basis.
The Associate Counsel, Integrity and Investigations, will primarily be responsible for conducting and supporting investigations across the NBA and its affiliated leagues, as well as for related legal matters. The position will also provide support to the NBA’s Security Department, including by giving advice related to security policies and procedures. This role will also support the company’s gaming-related integrity initiatives, including efforts to monitor, investigate, and remedy violations of the NBA’s Gaming Policy.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and support league investigations across a range of areas, including with respect to players, referees, and other league and team employees, in connection with allegations of misconduct, litigation, internal NBA matters, and to help enforce league rules. Responsibilities require regular coordination with various internal resources and third parties, including law enforcement, outside counsel, and investigative consulting firms.
  • Work with the NBA Security Department on security initiatives across the NBA and its affiliated leagues, including providing advice on policies and procedures and drafting contracts and other security-related documents.
  • Support the NBA’s gaming-related integrity program, including by working with staff across the league on data monitoring efforts, developing, implementing, and tracking league-wide training and education programs, and identifying and investigating potential violations of the NBA Gaming Policy.
  • Support the reputational diligence process related to certain league and team personnel and in connection with various NBA transactions.
  • Perform special projects and other assignments, as requested by the Legal Department’s senior leadership team.

 

Required Education/Professional Experience:

  • J.D. and admission to practice in the State of New York.
  • Four to seven years of legal experience, including a minimum of two years at a law firm and prior employment at a federal or state prosecutorial office or government agency, or in a role with comparable investigative experience.
  • Prosecutorial experience is strongly preferred.
  • Integrity monitoring experience and/or understanding of the gaming industry preferred.

Salary Range: $200,000 - $220,000
