Purpose of Position
The Department of Education, Health, and Behavior Studies at the University of North Dakota is seeking an Assistant Professor of Public Health Education. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position contingent on availability of funding.
The Public Health Education (PHE) program is housed in the Department of Education, Health, and Behavior Studies (EHBS) in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at UND. We offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health Education, a minor in Public Health and a certificate in Public Health. CEHD is committed firmly to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and accountability. CEHD has a record of 17,000+ alumni who reside in all 50 states and 35 countries. Since 2011, CEHD has generated more than $9 million dollars in extramural research grants from funding agencies, including the Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the National Science and Foundation.

Duties & Responsibilities
This position will have a workload distribution of 40-50% teaching, 40% research, and 10-20% service effort. UND and the College of Education and Human Development value diverse perspectives and seek applicants to help students succeed. The department seeks a candidate candidate will demonstrate outstanding promise for establishing a sustainable research program that will attract external funds and be aligned with the UND LEADS Strategic Plan.

The successful candidate for this position will develop and teach courses at the undergraduate level in the public health education program. Additionally, the candidate will have evidence of potential for an active research portfolio of peer-reviewed publications, scholarly presentations, and pursuit of external funding. They will also help build partnerships with community agencies to support the public health education program. Responsibilities for this position include:
- Teach undergraduate courses in Public Health Education (face to face and online)
- Build community partnerships in public health education
- Engage in research and produce publications
- Serve on department, college, and university committees, as well as play an active role in professional associations
- Contribute to the routine operations and on-going development of the program - (Essential)
Required Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and community partners
- The ability to teach, inspire and mentor undergraduate students
- Ability to effectively teach online and face-to-face public health education courses
Minimum Requirements
- An earned doctorate in public/community health, health behavior or related field (PhD, DrPH, or equivalent degree). ABD applicants will be considered with evidence of degree completion by August 16th, 2025.
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience in public health education at the undergraduate level, in both online and face-to-face platforms
- An established record of scholarly publications and presentations
- Experience collaborating with community partners
- Master of Public Health (MPH)
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)
