Job Description
Opportunity at a Glance
The Assistant Professor is responsible for teaching courses for Chamberlain College of Health Professions. This position provides the educational focus of teaching (classroom, field/practicum, and other learning environments) as well as committee work in the health professions or general education courses/programs. Service to the College, community, health system, profession, and scholarly activities are integral aspects of this position. The Assistant Professor is expected to meet faculty outcomes each year as indicated in an annual Individual Performance Plan.
Responsibilities
Chemistry and Biochemistry Instruction:
- Cover general and organic chemistry, and introduce biochemistry.
- Build understanding of chemical processes and states of matter, starting with the definition of matter and progressing through atoms, molecules, intermolecular interactions, and chemical equations.
- Present major categories of organic compounds, including hydrocarbons and oxygen- and nitrogen-containing compounds.
- In biochemistry, cover the four major biological macromolecules, enzymes, and the central dogma of biology.
- Conduct lab exercises related to discussed topics.
Teaching Schedule and Responsibilities:
- Teach every other 8-week session, 3 times per year (subject to change based on enrollment).
- Participate in faculty meetings 2-4 times per session.
- Engage students in a dynamic classroom/online hybrid setting.
- Implement Chamberlain College’s Care philosophy and curriculum.
- Plan and prepare for classes, respond to student requests, and ensure a powerful learning experience.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance student engagement and provide academic guidance.
- Plan clinical experiences, choose preceptors, and guide students in practical settings.
- Promote student success through flexible teaching styles and a passion for scholarly excellence.
- Engage with a diverse student body.
Professional and Administrative Duties:
- Foster a positive learning environment by keeping accurate records, submitting grades on time, and enforcing policies.
- Participate in curriculum development, support campus events, and engage in research, scholarship, and academic advising.
- Implement evidence-based teaching and master instruction.
- Develop and revise course materials annually.
- Provide feedback and remediation to students.
- Serve as a professional role model and mentor for students and new faculty.
- Participate in professional activities outside the College.
- Contribute to program development and evaluation.
- Advise and counsel students, and participate in student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies.
- Provide recommendations for budget needs.
- Assume leadership roles within the College, such as chairing committees and work groups, and serving as course coordinator or Subject Matter Expert (SME).
Applied Practice Expertise:
- Monitor field/practicum agencies for appropriateness and ability to meet course outcomes.
- Plan and supervise applied practice experiences for health profession students.
- Provide oversight and evaluation of field/practicum preceptors/mentors.
- Communicate up-to-date information about field/practicum agency policies and procedures.
- Post applied practice assignments consistent with students’ knowledge and skills.
General Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Earned a master's or doctorate degree in Chemistry with a minimum of 18 or more graduate credit hours earned directly in Chemistry
- Chemistry; biochemistry; organic chemistry; Analytic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Theoretical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Clinical BioAnalytical Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Neuro Chemistry, Material Science, Food Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Toxicology, Agricultural Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Astrochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Nanochemistry
- Alternate Degree Fields (must confirm 18 hours of coursework in disciplines to the right): Pharmacology, Cheminformatics

- Have at least 15-credit hours of higher education teaching experience (highly preferred)
- Possess genuine passion for nursing, education, and lifelong learning
- Have exceptional subject matter expertise as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Possess strong online teaching skills and the ability to break down complex topics to less academically prepared students
- Are eager to serve students and colleagues with passion, respect and care
- Operate with a sense of responsibility and purpose with the desire to enrich colleagues, students and the broader community
- Have a strong work ethic, learn from mistakes, build positive spirit and always look for a better way
- Put the team first, appreciate diverse points of view, assume positive intent, collaborate and communicate openly
- Are able to provide official and unofficial transcripts for all earned degrees from a regionally accredited institution
Additional Information
In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $53,520.9 and $96,736.53. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
