As Assistant General Counsel, Product, you will be one of the critical bridges between our innovative product team and the estate planning industry, ensuring that every new product we launch is not only hugely impactful and groundbreaking but also aligned with estate planning industry practice and compliant with state laws and regulations. You’ll play a pivotal role in driving the ideation, creation, and evolution of our product offerings, helping guide the process from concept through implementation and ongoing maintenance. Your expertise will also position you as a thought leader, acting as one of the company’s spokespersons on complex estate planning issues and regulatory matters. You’ll work closely with our teams to ensure they are equipped with the resources they need to support our members, while also championing regulatory and legislative advancements that align with both business goals and broader consumer benefits.
About You:You are an articulate, strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the intersection between product innovation and legal compliance. Your background in estate planning and familiarity with legal-product functions allow you to effortlessly navigate the complexities of regulatory frameworks while driving product creation and development. You’re an excellent communicator and a recognized expert in your field, comfortable being one of the public faces of the company and engaging and advocating with the industry for the benefits of continuing to modernize estate planning. Your ability to balance innovative thinking with regulatory rigor sets you apart, and you thrive in environments where you can shape both policy and product to ensure long-term success.

About the Role:

  • You'll work closely with product functions (innovation, implementation, and maintenance of product offerings):
  • Innovation - have a hand in the ideation and creation of net new products for our members
  • Implementation - ensure that our teams have the context, information and resources they need to support our members
  • Maintenance - maintain a baseline of our core product offerings, periodically revisiting for compliance and support
  • External engagement with business and legal industry on estate planning topics:
  • Public communications - be one of the company’s voices: helpful, knowledgeable, and current with innovation in the estate planning industry 
  • Involvement in regulatory and legislative affairs - advocate for industry adoption as an expert insider both where it obviously benefits our business and when support is necessary for broader consumer-positive change

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing
  • 10+ years of estate planning experience with product counseling, preferably in the technology, financial services, or estate planning industries
  • Experience working with product development teams to innovate, implement, and maintain product offerings
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, compliance issues, and legislative processes relevant to estate planning, financial services, and/or technology
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate for industry change and navigate public policy and regulatory affairs, with prior experience engaging with legislators, regulators, or industry groups being a strong plus
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to serve as a company spokesperson and interact with both internal teams and external stakeholders, including regulators and legislators
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to balance legal risk with business goals in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional environment

  • Compensation - Salary + Equity: Our salary range for this position is $163,000 - $200,000, in addition to compensation we also include an employee equity package as a component of our offer along with other benefits and perks outlined below.
