About the Department

The Office of Clinical Research (OCR) was created to further the research missions of the University of Chicago Biological Sciences Division and the University of Chicago Medical Center. The office’s mission is to catalyze clinical research by providing expertise, resources, infrastructure, and systems that facilitate clinical research operations and enable collaboration across the enterprise while promoting compliance and human subject protection. To do this, the work of the OCR is supported by five service units: Human Subject Protection (IRB); Research Compliance; Clinical Research Operational Excellence; Clinical Research Incubation; and Clinical Trial Finance.


Job Information

Assistant Director, Clinical Trial Financial Group for various and unanticipated worksites throughout the U.S (HQ: Chicago, IL).The Assistant Director provides direct management and oversight of the budget negotiations, and/or post-award financial management for clinical trials with the Biological Sciences Division (BSD).

Responsibilities include: directly managing a team of individuals responsible for performing clinical trial pre-award or post-award activities across the BSD; building and negotiating clinical trial budgets and contract terms on behalf of faculty with industry, federal, and private funding agencies; providing leadership in the execution and negotiation of clinical trial budgets, master clinical trial rate cards and pricing agreements with industry sponsors and partners; serving as local expert in clinical budgeting and compliance; align SOPs and ensure consistent processes across Clinical Trials Financial Group and BSD; developing metrics to ensure proper staffing levels are maintained and key objectives are attained.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, finance or closely related field

Experience:

  • Seven years' experience of progressive experience in clinical research coordination, research project management or related field required

Required Skills:

  • Experience with: (1) academic medical operations; (2) clinical research funding sources; (3) federal and non-federal regulations for grant writing; (4) federal and non-federal grant and contract policies for academic and medical research; (5) building and negotiating clinical trial budgets; and (6) developing and applying performance metrics. 100% Telecommuting permitted.
