Art Director (Maps) - Lake Forest, CA

We are looking for an experienced Art Director, with Maps focus, to be a part of our Art team. The Art Director (Maps) will provide direction and guidance for Maps through the pipeline from conception to completion; you maintain quality standards while striving for unforgettable player experiences. The Art Director (Maps) will work with Environment Teams (Concept, World Builders, Props, Texture, and Lighting), Audio and VFX departments on all map specific work.

In this role, you will provide direction and feedback for map related content and maintain high-quality and consistency across the environments. The right candidate will look for opportunities to enhance the player experience, embrace and provide constructive feedback, while being a mentor for team members. You will maintain the high-level view of the Map pipeline and provide creative solutions regarding all Map related aspects of the project.

This role will report to our Creative Director.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and guide maps through the pipeline from concept to completion
  • Collaborate with Creative Director, Level Design, Narrative, and other Department Leads to establish the vision for Environments
  • Provide feedback and direction to the Environment Teams as they execute the vision and maintain a consistent, high-quality bar across the environments
  • Work closely with the Production team to ensure timelines and other needs for the maps team are communicated effectively
  • Work with Department Leads to define Map related pipelines and maintain a high-level view of the Map pipeline from concept to completion
  • Provide mentorship and coaching for team members including but not limited to: 1:1s, career developments, performance evaluations, and goal setting

Requirements

  • Experience as an Art Director or Art Lead that has shipped a AAA title on Console or PC
  • Demonstrated experience working on or directing multiple environments from concept to completion
  • Demonstrated experience working with modern FPS engines (UE4, UE5, etc.) and modern art pipelines
  • Strong sense of design and deep understanding of foundational art principles
  • Keen production sensibilities, ability to collaborate on timelines and communicate with Production, Leads, and team members on task duration and prioritization
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and teaching skills
  • Strong ability to interpret and adapt to general and flexible direction. Can thrive in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Proficient in Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender
  • A passion for games and map building

The estimated base pay range for this role is: $165,000 —$200,000 USD
