Position Summary

The Appraisal Assistant plays an important role in the organization by performing a number of activities related to the company’s Compliance functions. The role is primarily responsible, under general to moderate supervision, for bringing success to the appraisal order process. The primary role of the Appraisal Assistant is to act as an independent liaison between the approved appraisers and the production and operations staff to ensure compliance with Appraisal Independence Requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Use multiple IT platforms to order appraisals from approved appraisers and appraisal management companies when necessary.
  • Responsible for appraisal order requests, timely follow up and escalated service requests.
  • Monitor assignments and the return deliver of appraisal reports from the appraiser.
  • Responsible for follow up on progress of appraisal order assignments outside of expected timeframe.
  • Ensure appraisal reports are submitted through FNMA UCDP and FHA EAD portals.  
  • Create and maintain matrices, spreadsheets and/or announcements for distribution.
  • Prepare and submit appraisal invoices and invoicing reports to Finance on a weekly basis.
  • Function as field liaison for Appraisal Department, especially during expansion efforts to support other regions (Agency/Federal).
  • Build positive working relationships; interact effectively with all levels within the organization.
  • Maintain knowledge of guidelines relative to Appraiser Independence Requirements (“AIR”) as well as industry trends and regulations.
  • Identify gaps, report discrepancies and bring resolution where needed.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of 2 years of mortgage experience required.
  • Two-year associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Relevant appraisal experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated advanced PC proficiency, including knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and Word; as well as online meeting platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Previous experience working with mortgage banking software preferred.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and/or in a team environment; self-motivated with a strong attention to detail.
